Mecha Press
''Mecha Press'' is a North American anime and manga magazine that was published by IANVS Publications in the early 1990s. The magazine was released on a roughly bimonthly schedule, with 5 to 6 issues per year. Each issue usually focused on one particular anime or manga, dedicating up to one third of its page content on related synopsis, character and mecha presentations. The magazine ''Mecha Press'' was originally started as a sister magazine to ''Protoculture Addicts'', the oldest anime and manga magazine in North America. Its name derives from its main focus, mecha, although the content also covered characters, stories, toys, games and scale models. The publisher of ''Mecha Press'' was Ianus Publications. The first issue, a red duo-tone test called issue #0, was published in 1991. Issue #1 officially launched the magazine the next year. Gunbuster
''Gunbuster'', known in Japan as , is a Japanese OVA anime series produced by Bandai, Victor, and Gainax and released from 1988 to 1989. It was the directorial debut of Hideaki Anno, best known as the creator and director of ''Neon Genesis Evangelion''. The title is a combination of the titles of classic tennis manga and anime ''Aim for the Ace!'' and hit action drama film ''Top Gun'', whose plot inspired ''Gunbuster''s. To celebrate Gainax's 20th anniversary in 2004, a sequel to ''Gunbuster'', ''Diebuster'' (or ''Gunbuster 2''), was released as an OVA. The sequel features new characters and mecha, but retains the format and many of the concepts of the original series. Valkyrie
In Norse mythology, a valkyrie ("chooser of the slain") is one of a host of female figures who guide souls of the dead to the god Odin's hall Valhalla. There, the deceased warriors become (Old Norse "single (or once) fighters"Orchard (1997:36) and Lindow (2001:104).). When the are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Mamoru Nagano
is a Japanese manga artist, animator, and mecha and character designer. Born in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, he is noted for his work with anime studio Sunrise. He is married to voice actress Maria Kawamura. Career Mamoru Nagano made his professional debut in 1984 working with Yoshiyuki Tomino on the TV series ''Heavy Metal L-Gaim''. ''Fool for the City'', his first manga, came out in 1985 but it was 1986 that brought ''The Five Star Stories'', which is still in production today. Nagano founded Toys Press, Inc. to publish much of his work. His work in ''Heavy Metal L-Gaim'' introducing mecha with armor plates that appeared to fit loosely over an internal skeleton. These detailed and somewhat plausible designs sparked a fresh wave of designs in mecha anime. Five Star Stories
is a mecha manga series created by Mamoru Nagano, building on his work on the anime series ''Heavy Metal L-Gaim''. The story takes place cluster of four major planetary systems. Amaterasu, the immortal emperor of the Grees Kingdom on the planet Delta Belune, is destined to rule the whole Joker System. He and Lachesis, his bride (and a ''fatima'', an artificial life-form), are the main characters of this epic story. An anime film adaptation of the first volume, directed by Kazuo Yamazaki, was released in 1989. is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. Set in the fictional city of Newport, Japan, in a future in which bacteria as well as air pollution have become so severe that people must wear gas masks when outdoors, the series follows a police squadron that uses military-style tanks. ''Dominion'' has been adapted into three original video animation series: the first was released in 1988, the second, in 1993, and the third, in 2006.
