Mebonden or Mebond is the administrative centre of the municipality of Selbu in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located at the eastern end of the lake Selbusjøen at the mouth of the Nea River. Nea River
, , or is an long river which has runs through the municipalities of Tydal and Selbu in Trøndelag county, Norway and Åre Municipality in Jämtland county, Sweden. The river Nea is a part of the Nea-Nidelvvassdraget watershed. Some of the main villages along the river include: Østby, Ås, Aunet, and Gressli in Tydal and Flora, Hyttbakken, Selbu, and Mebonden in Selbu. The river is first named Nean at the eastern end of the artificial lake Sylsjön, which lies in Åre Municipality and Berg Municipality in Sweden. Below the dam, the river flows for , crossing the Swedish-Norwegian border where the name becomes Nea, before entering the lake Nesjøen. Selbu is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Mebonden. Other villages in Selbu include Flora, Fossan, Hyttbakken, Innbygda, Selbustrand, Trøa, Tømra, and Vikvarvet. The municipality is the 86th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. General information The municipality (originally the parish) of Selbu was established on 1 January 1838 (see Formannskapsdistrikt law). Selbu Church
Selbu Church ( no, Selbu kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Selbu municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Mebonden. It is one of the churches for the Selbu parish which is part of the Stjørdal prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The church seats about 550 people. The white, stone church was built in a cruciform style around the year 1150 under designs by an unknown architect. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1409, but the church was not new that year. The old stone church was likely built around the year 1150. It was originally built as a single-nave long church with narrower choir with a lower roof line in the southeast. It is believed that the choir was built first, around the mid-12th century while the nave was completed afterwards.
