Mebarek Soltani
Mebarek Soltani (born April 10, 1982) is a boxer from Algeria. He is the nephew of Hocine Soltani. He participated in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics for his native North African country. In 2000 he was stopped in the first round of the light flyweight (– 48 kg) competition. In 2004 he was stopped in the first round of the flyweight (– 51 kg) division by Russia's Georgy Balakshin. Soltani won the bronze medal in the same division at the All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria. He qualified for the Athens Games by winning the silver medal at the 1st AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco. Georgy Ruslanovich Balakshin (russian: Георгий Русланович Балакшин; born March 6, 1980 in Antonovka, near Nyurba, Sakha Republic) is an Olympic boxer from Russia best known for winning the European title three times. Career Balakshin won the gold medal 2002 and defended the crown at the 2004 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Pula. He participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native Russia. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division.
