Meatmen (comics)
''Meatmen: An Anthology of Gay Male Comics'' is a series of paperback books collecting short comics featuring gay and bisexual male characters. The comics included a mixture of explicit erotica and humor. Between 1986 and 2004, 26 black-and-white volumes of the series (160–200 pages each) were published by Leyland Publications, making it the longest-running anthology of gay male pornographic comics. During its run, the series was said to feature "every gay male cartoonist of note who has worked since the 1970s". Winston Leyland
Winston Leyland (born 1940) is a British-American author and editor. Called "one of the seminal figures in gay publishing" by the ''San Francisco Sentinel'', he was originally ordained a Catholic priest and later graduated from UCLA. He worked for the ''Los Angeles Times'' and '' Gay Sunshine'', serving as editor for the latter when it was rebranded as the ''Gay Sunshine Journal''. Under his direction, the ''Journal'' was praised by Allen Ginsberg for "its presentation of literary history hitherto kept in the closet by the academies." In 1975, Leyland founded Gay Sunshine Press, the oldest LGBT publishing house in the United States, followed by Leyland Publications in 1984. The two imprints combined have published more than 135 books, and are known for their translations of gay-themed European and Asian literature into English, including works by Vladimir Makanin, Yukio Mishima, and Nikolai Gogol. Jon Macy
Jon Macy is a gay American cartoonist. He began his career in 1990 with the series ''Tropo'' published September 1990 – April 1992 by Blackbird Comics. Since then, he has contributed to various LGBT comics anthologies and gay pornographic magazines, but he is best known for his graphic novel ''Teleny and Camille'', which won a 2010 Lambda Literary Award for Gay Erotica. Early life Jon Macy was born on September 11, 1964, in California. Career Macy's first series ''Tropo'' was part of the early 1990s black and white alternative comics boom. It was followed by the erotic horror series ''Nefarismo'' published October 1994 – October 1995 by Eros Comix. Oliver Frey (; 30 June 1948 – 21 August 2022) was a Swiss artist, who was based in the United Kingdom. He was known for his book and magazine illustrations, especially for British computer magazines of the 1980s. William Ward (1927–1996) was a British erotic artist. He is best known for his strips featuring bear-like men and in particular his ''Adventures of Drum'' series for ''Drummer'' magazine. Robert Triptow (born May 10, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah) is an American writer and artist. He is known primarily for creating gay- and bisexual-themed comics and for editing ''Gay Comix'' in the 1980s, and he was identified by underground comix pioneer Lee Marrs as "the last of the underground cartoonists."
