Meathead (album)
''Meathead'' is a double album by Captain Sensible, released in September 1995 by Humbug Records. It is Sensible's fifth studio solo album and contains 32 songs across two and a half hours. The album includes studio performances by Sensible's band - featuring ex- Damned bassist Paul Gray, keyboardist Malcolm Dixon and drummer Garrie Dreadful - as well as demo recordings and instrumentals recorded mostly by Sensible on his own. Background Sensible writes in the album's liner notes: "If ''The Universe of Geoffrey Brown'' was my ''Sgt. Pepper'', then this collection of goodies is probably ''The White Album''.... warts and all!" ''Meathead'' was recorded in a "full on experimentation mode", where "nothing was off limits", according to Sensible. Captain Sensible
Raymond Ian Burns (born 24 April 1954), known by the stage name Captain Sensible, is an English singer, songwriter and guitarist. Captain Sensible co-founded the punk rock band The Damned (band), the Damned, originally playing bass before switching to guitar. He embarked on a solo career during the 1980s, following a UK Singles Chart, UK number one hit with his cover of "Happy Talk (song), Happy Talk". Captain Sensible's distinctive appearance includes a red beret and sunglasses, typically with white frames. He was also a founder of the Captain_Sensible#Politics, Blah! Party. Dolly Mixture (band)
Dolly Mixture were an English band, formed in 1978 by the bassist and vocalist Debsey Wykes (born 21 December 1960, Hammersmith, London, England), guitarist and vocalist Rachel Bor (born 16 May 1962, Wales), and drummer Hester Smith (born 28 October 1960, West Africa). They had a taste of top 40 success performing backing vocals for the Captain Sensible hit " Wot", a top 10 hit with Sensible on "Glad It's All Over", and a UK No. 1 hit backing Sensible on his 1982 cover of " Happy Talk". Rachel Bor also featured on the Animus/Loose Records single "Wot NO Meat?" also by Captain Sensible in 1985. The Users were an English punk rock band, formed in Cambridge, England, that was active between 1977 and 1979. James Hunter (singer)
James Hunter (born 2 October 1962) is an English R&B musician and soul singer. Career Hunter was born to a working-class family in Colchester, Essex. His early musical influences came from his grandmother's collection of 78rpm records of R'n'B and rock and roll music. Before turning 10, Hunter had begun playing the guitar and singing His career began with a band called Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays, who released their first album in 1986 entitled ''Cry Wilf''. Later he released three more with his own band. Martin Newell (musician)
Martin Newell (born 4 March 1953) is an English singer-songwriter, poet, columnist and author who leads the Cleaners from Venus, a guitar pop band with Jangle pop, jangly, upbeat arrangements. He is also regarded as a significant figure in the history of cassette culture and DIY music. Musical career 1973–1979 In the summer of 1973, a 20-year-old Newell joined Colchester glam rock cover band Plod as their lead singer, replacing founder member Steve Travis, Steve Greenfield. Richie Unterberger (born January 19, 1962) is an American author and journalist whose focus is popular music and travel writing. Fun Factory (song)
"Fun Factory" is a single by English rock band the Damned, released in December 1990 on Deltic Records. The band had split in 1989, but reformed shortly thereafter for touring. Captain Sensible was set to return, and sought the other band members' permission to reissue the track "Fun Factory", recorded in late 1982 (and featuring King Crimson's Robert Fripp on guitar), but shelved when the Damned's record company (Bronze Records) went bankrupt in early 1983. While it was not attached to any Damned album, it has been issued on several compilations. The B-side was a solo track by Sensible, a remix of a track from his 1989 solo album ''Revolution Now''.
