Meander
A meander is one of a series of regular sinuous curves in the channel of a river or other watercourse. It is produced as a watercourse erodes the sediments of an outer, concave bank ( cut bank) and deposits sediments on an inner, convex bank which is typically a point bar. The result of this coupled erosion and sedimentation is the formation of a sinuous course as the channel migrates back and forth across the axis of a floodplain. The zone within which a meandering stream periodically shifts its channel is known as a meander belt. It typically ranges from 15 to 18 times the width of the channel. Over time, meanders migrate downstream, sometimes in such a short time as to create civil engineering challenges for local municipalities attempting to maintain stable roads and bridges.Neuendorf, K.K.E., J.P. Mehl Jr., and J.A. Jackson, J.A., eds. (2005) ''Glossary of Geology'' (5th ed.). Alexandria, Virginia, American Geological Institute. 779 pp. Charlton, R., 2007. ''Fundamentals ...

The surrounding land has been modified by the original Indigenous inhabitants, who turned forest into grassland, and the later settlers, who have created extensive channels for irrigation and drainage. The town is south of the town of Deloraine, Tasmania and is bisected by the Meander River. It sits between Quamby Bluff and Mother Cummings Peak of the Great Western Tiers mountain range. Meander Dam
The Meander Dam is a concrete gravity dam across the Upper Meander River, located in northern Tasmania, Australia. The impounded reservoir is called Lake Huntsman. The dam was constructed in 2006 by the Tasmanian Rivers & Water Supply Commission for the principal purpose of delivering a reliable supply of irrigation water to the Meander Valley, estimated at . Adjacent to the dam is a small conventional hydroelectric power station. Features and location Proposals to build a dam on the Meander River below Warners Creek date back to at least 1968. The site was cleared in preparation for dam construction during the last 1980s. In 1995 a report by engineering consultants, GHD Group, stated that the lack of a reliable water supply for irrigation in the Meander Catchment is seen as a key factor limiting potential future expansion of agricultural enterprises. The pressure on water resources in the Meander Catchment resulted in the need to limit and sometimes prohibit the extract ...

Meander River (Tasmania)
The Meander River is a major perennial river located in the central northern region of Tasmania, Australia. Until the founding of Westbury in the early 1820s the river was known as The Western River. Location and features The Meander River rises in the Great Western Tiers and flows past its namesake town, Meander, through the major regional town of Deloraine, then eastward, where it flows into the South Esk River near Hadspen. From source to mouth, the river is joined by fourteen tributaries including the Liffey River and descends over its course. The damming of the river in 2007 created the artificial reservoir Lake Huntsman. The Meander Hydro Dam provides both electricity and water to the region, and is the second dam on the Meander River. Recreation The Meander is a popular trout fishing stream holding brown trout. The World Fly Fishing Championships organized by the International Confederation of Sport Fishing has selected the Meander as one its venues for the 201 ...

Meander (art)
__NOTOC__ A meander or meandros ( el, Μαίανδρος) is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif. Among some Italians, these patterns are known as "Greek Lines". Such a design also may be called the Greek fret or Greek key design, although these terms are modern designations even though the decorative motif appears thousands of years before that culture, thousands of miles away from Greece, and among cultures that are continents away from it. Usually the term is used for motifs with straight lines and right angles and the many versions with rounded shapes are called running scrolls or, following the entomological origin of the term, may be identified as water wave motifs. On one hand, the name "meander" recalls the twisting and turning path of the Maeander River in Asia Minor (present day Turkey) that is typical of river pathways. On another hand, as Karl Kerenyi pointed out, "the meander is the figure of a labyrinth in linear ...

Meander (1855)
The SS ''Meander'' was an iron screw passenger steamship built for James Moss & Co. of Liverpool for the Moss Line. She was launched on 23 December 1854 by the Bristol yard of George Kelson Stothert & Co. She had two sisterships built at the same shipyard, the ''Scamander'' and ''Araxes''. History Soon after completion, James Moss & Co. chartered the ''Meander'' with both her sisterships to the French Government for use as troopships in the Crimean War. She was renamed ''Meandre'' and returned after the Crimean War ended in February 1856. She was purchased by Bibby Line the following year and reverted to her original name, although she was still referred to by the French and Lloyds Register as the ''Meandre''. After a decade of service she was sold in 1868 to Cie Generale Maritime of Antwerp and renamed ''Baron Lambermont'' for operating out of Belgium. She again changed hands in 1877 when she was acquired by E. Caillol et H. Saint-Pierre of Marseilles and was renamed ' ...
