Md. Shahinur Islam (born 7 April 1958) is a Bangladeshi justice of the High Court Division and International Crimes Tribunal. Early life Islam was born on 7 April 1958. He completed his bachelors in law from the University of Rajshahi. Career Islam enrolled at the Mymensingh District Bar in 1983 and practised criminal law in the Sessions Court as well as High Court. Islam was appointed the District Munsiff Court on 20 April 1983. A Sessions Court or even known as the Court of Sessions Judge is a court of law which exists in several Commonwealth countries. A Court of Session is the highest criminal court in a district and the court of first instance for trying serious offences, i.e., those carrying punishment of imprisonment of more than seven years, life imprisonment, or death. Bangladesh Sessions Court is a type of lower court in Bangladesh that deals with criminal cases. The Code of Criminal Procedure enables government to establish sessions court in every district or metropolitan city of Bangladesh. Habiganj District
Habiganj ( bn, হবিগঞ্জ, Hobigonj), formerly known as Habibganj ( bn, হবিবগঞ্জ, Hobibgonj), is a district in north-eastern Bangladesh, located in the Sylhet Division. It was established as a district in 1984 as a successor to its ''subdivision'' status since 1867. It is named after its headquarters, the town of Habiganj. History Ancient Prehistoric settlements were said to have been discovered in the Chaklapunji tea garden, near Chandirmazar of Chunarughat. Narail District
Narail ( bn, নড়াইল, pron: ''nɔɽail'') is a district in south-western Bangladesh. It is a part of Khulna Division. History Narail town was named after a feudal lord (a zamindar). The zamindars established a market at Roopgonj, also named after a zamindar. They established a post office for the first time in the district during British Raj near Rotongonj, named after another member of the zamindar's family. They modernised Narail, and promoted culture, sports and education. The large playing field, Kuriddobe, was a gift of the zamindar's family. International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)
The International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh) (ICT of Bangladesh) is a domestic war crimes tribunal in Bangladesh set up in 2009 to investigate and prosecute suspects for the genocide committed in 1971 by the Pakistan Army and their local collaborators, Razakars, Al-Badr and Al-Shams during the Bangladesh Liberation War. During the 2008 general election, the Awami League (AL) pledged to try war criminals. The government set up the tribunal after the Awami League won the general election in December 2008 with a more than two-thirds majority in parliament. The War Crimes Fact Finding Committee, tasked to investigate and find evidence, completed its report in 2008, identifying 1,600 suspects. Anwarul Haque
Anwarul Haque ( – 13 July 2017) was a Bangladesh Supreme Court justice who served as the Chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1. Education Haque completed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Dhaka Government Muslim High School and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. He completed his bachelor's in law from the University of Dhaka. Career Haque started practicing law in 1980. On 1 December 1981, he joined the judicial service as an Assistant Judge and later became a District and Sessions Judge in 1997. He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court on 12 December 2010, and was appointed Judge of the same Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 10 December 2012. Abdul Momen Talukder
Abdul Momin Talukder (born 29 June 1952) is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bogra-3 constituency during 2001–2014. In November 2021, Talukder was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal for his conviction in war crime charges during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Career Talukder served as an assistant organising secretary of BNP central committee of the Rajshahi division. He was elected to parliament from Bogra-3 as a BNP candidate in 2001 and 2008 elections.
