Alfred McWilliams (October 6, 1840 – 1928) was a farmer and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 2nd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1891 to 1915 as a Liberal member. He was born in West Cape, Prince Edward Island, of Scottish descent. McWilliams was a miller, a justice of the peace and served as postmaster for West Cape for 30 years. He was first elected to the provincial assembly in an 1891 by-election held after John Yeo was elected to the House of Commons. Sir Francis McWilliams (8 February 1926 – 31 August 2022) was a British engineer. He served as Lord Mayor of London from 1992 to 1993. During his period as Lord Mayor, the 1993 Bishopsgate bombing took place and his subsequent discussions with John Major led to the establishment of the Ring of Steel around the City of London. Roland Fairbairn McWilliams (October 10, 1874 – December 10, 1957) was a Canadian politician and office-holder. He served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba from 1940 to 1953. McWilliams was born in Peterborough, Ontario. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1896, and started his Bachelor of Laws degree at Osgoode Hall the following year. He subsequently worked as a barrister and solicitor. He campaigned for the Ontario Liberal Party in the 1905 provincial election, but was defeated. In 1906, McWilliams was elected Mayor of Peterborough. He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1910, and continued to practice law for several years. McWilliams was also a leading organizer within YMCA, serving as its North American Vice President in 1923 and 1924, and as its Canadian leader from 1922 to 1929. Rhys McWilliams (born 29 November 1985, Birmingham, England) is an English professional ice hockey player, currently playing with the Coventry Blaze organisation at ENIHL level. In the year 2000 he began his professional career, making his debut for the Solihull Barons as a young forward having also featured for their U-19 team, the Solihull Knights. Whilst playing for the Knights, McWilliams managed the astounding total of 55 points in just 17 games. He went on to become much more of a regular for the Barons in the following season and showed enough promise to play for the England U-18 team. Joseph Elsberry McWilliams (1904 – 1996) was an American right-wing political figure of the 1940s, and the principal defendant in the federal Smith Act sedition trial of 1944. Biography McWilliams was born in 1904 to a poor pioneer family in Hitchcock, Oklahoma. In his earlier days McWilliams was well known for using an American-flag-draped covered Conestoga wagon for publicizing his rallies and speeches, as well as for drawing attention to his cause. Most of his early rallies were impromptu street presentations that at times ended violently, as one did on July 4, 1940 in New York City.
