McVicker's Theater
McVicker's Theater (1857–1984) was a playhouse in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Built for actor James Hubert McVicker, the theater was the leading stage for comedic plays in Chicago's early years. It often hosted performances by Edwin Booth, who married McVicker's daughter and was once targeted there in an attempted murder. Adler & Sullivan designed a remodel in 1883. Although destroyed in two fires, including the Great Chicago Fire, McVicker's remained an operating theater until 1984. It was demolished the next year. Daphne Alloway McVicker (March 14, 1895 – May 24, 1979) was an American writer, mainly of short stories, and a comic memoir, ''The Queen Was in the Kitchen'' (1944). Early life and education Daphne Ninnette Alloway was born in Cambridge, Ohio, the daughter of James William Alloway and Ninnette McKinley Alloway. Her father was a grocer. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1916. Career McVicker published hundreds of poems and short stories in magazines and newspapers. She was especially successful in romance magazines, "both confessions and slicks", with titles including ''Romantic Love Secrets'', ''Sweetheart Stories'', ''Ainslee's Smart Love Stories''. She also had stories published in more mainstream women's magazines, such as ''Cosmopolitan'' and ''McCall's''. Some of her stories were anthologized in story collections and school readers. Norman McVicker
Norman Michael McVicker (4 November 1940 – 19 November 2008) was an English cricketer. Having failed to establish himself with either Lancashire or Derbyshire, where he had trialled, McVicker initially played county cricket at minor counties cricket level for Lincolnshire. His performances in minor counties cricket were noticed by Warwickshire, who signed him at the age of 28 in 1969. He played five seasons with Warwickshire, winning the 1972 County Championship and taking 300 first-class wickets. He was released by Warwickshire at the end of the 1973 season and subsequently played for Leicestershire for three seasons from 1974–1976, winning both the County Championship and Benson & Hedges Cup in 1975. He retired at the end of the 1976 season, but came out of retirement in 1977 to play one-day cricket for Leicestershire, before retiring again at the end of that season. Mitch McVicker is a GMA Dove Award-winning contemporary Christian Music singer-songwriter. Biography McVicker attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, in the early-1990s where he met and befriended the late CCM recording artist, Rich Mullins. After graduating in May 1995, McVicker moved to New Mexico, eventually touring and writing songs with Mullins. With Mullins and song collaborator Beaker, McVicker co-wrote the musical, ''The Canticle of the Plains'', which is based on the life and teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi. Dana McVicker is an American country music artist. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1963, she recorded for Capitol Records Nashville in 1988, releasing a self-titled album and charting four singles on the U.S. country charts. McVicker was also nominated for Best New Female Artist at the 1988 Academy of Country Music awards, losing to K. T. Oslin. She also appeared on the song " Young Country" from Hank Williams, Jr.'s ''Born to Boogie'' album. Roy H (foaled April 22, 2012) is a Thoroughbred racehorse who is the two time winner of the Breeders' Cup Sprint. He was named the American Champion Sprint Horse of 2017 and 2018. He did not start racing until age three, when he won only one race, and he was winless at age four. In 2017 at age five however, he developed into the best sprinter in North America by winning the True North Stakes, Santa Anita Sprint Championship and Breeders' Cup Sprint.
