McNeill Bay (British Columbia)
McNeill Bay (aka Shoal Bay) lies within the boundaries of Oak Bay, British Columbia along the coast of Vancouver Island. It was named after Captain William Henry McNeill, master of the Hudson's Bay Company steamer SS ''Beaver'', and one of the five original landowners of Oak Bay. On 14 March 1843 the SS ''Beaver'' anchored in this bay, with James Douglas (Chief Factor of the Hudson's Bay Company) as the site for Fort Victoria was being scouted. The land where the esplanade currently runs along the shoreline was a gift from Rosina Irene Margaret Ross. Image:McNeill_Bay.jpg, McNeill Bay as seen overlooking Beach Drive. McNeill HVDC Back-to-back Station
McNeill HVDC Back-to-back station is an HVDC back-to-back station at 50°35'56"N 110°1'25"W, which interconnects the power grids of the Canadian provinces Alberta and Saskatchewan and went in service in 1989. McNeill HVDC back-to-back station is the most northerly of a series of HVDC interconnectors between the unsynchronised eastern and western AC systems of the United States and Canada. The station, which was built by GEC-Alstom, can transfer a maximum power of 150 MW at a DC voltage of 42 kV. The station is unusual in many respects and contained several firsts for HVDC. Most notably, the McNeill station was the first HVDC installation to dispense with the DC smoothing reactor, a component which most engineers consider as an absolute must at HVDC plants. Even today, only a small number of back to back HVDC stations (and no point-to-point transmission schemes) have been built without DC smoothing reactors. The McNeill station was also notable for operating with an except ...

McNeill's Law
In human geography, McNeill's law is the process outlined in William H. McNeill's book ''Plagues and Peoples''. The process described concerns the role of microbial disease in the conquering of people-groups. Particularly, it describes how diseases such as smallpox, measles, typhus, scarlet fever, and sexually-transmitted diseases have significantly reduced native populations so that they are unable to resist colonization. Concept According to McNeill's Law, the microbiological aspect of conquest and invasion has been the deciding principle or one of the deciding principles in both the expansion of certain empires (as during the emigration to the Americas) and the containment in others (as during the crusades). The argument is that less civilized peoples were easily subjugated due to the immunological advantages of those coming from civilized countries. An evidence presented to support the hypothesis involves the manner diseases associated with Europeans were rebuffed in th ...

McNeill's Rangers
McNeill's Rangers was an independent Confederate military force commissioned under the Partisan Ranger Act (1862) by the Confederate Congress during the American Civil War. The 210 man unit (equivalent to a small or under-strength battalion) was formed from Company E of the 18th Virginia Cavalry and the First Virginia Partisan Rangers (62nd Virginia Mounted Infantry). After the repeal of the Act on February 17, 1864, McNeill's Rangers was one of two partisan forces allowed to continue operation, the other being 43rd Battalion Virginia Cavalry (Mosby's Raiders). Both of these guerrilla forces operated in the western counties of Virginia and West Virginia. The Rangers were known to exercise military discipline when conducting raids. However, many Union generals considered Captain John Hanson McNeill (1815–1864) and his men to be " bushwhackers," not entitled to protection when captured, as was the case with other prisoners of war. Background In 1861, John McNeill — a native o ...

Hosted by Don McNeill (performer), Don McNeill, the radio program ran from June 23, 1933, through December 27, 1968. History In Chicago during the early 1930s, McNeill was assigned to take over an unsponsored early morning variety show, ''The Pepper Pot'', with an 8 a.m. timeslot on the NBC Blue Network. McNeill re-organized the hour as ''The Breakfast Club,'' dividing it into four segments which McNeill labeled "the Four Calls to Breakfast#Unite ...
