Lena Mae McLin (née Johnson; September 5, 1928) is an American former music teacher, composer, author, and pastor. She is also known for her career as music teacher in the Chicago Public Schools system, most notably at Kenwood Academy. Early life McLin was born in Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of five she was sent to live with her uncle, Thomas A. Dorsey. She attended the Pilgrim Baptist Church as a child, where she was exposed to gospel music and served as an accompanist to her uncle's choir. McLin has a bachelor's degree in music, specializing in piano and violin, from Spelman College, and a graduate degree in music from the American Conservatory of Music. Clarence Josef McLin Sr. (August 20, 1899 – December 20, 1966) was an American civic leader and businessman in Dayton, Ohio. Early life McLin was born in Tennessee and also lived in Chicago. Career McLin founded the McLin Funeral Home in 1932. He served as the eighth president of the Dayton Branch of the NAACP from 1937 to 1938. McLin ran for the Ohio House of Representatives in 1966. He later co-founded, with State Representative Larry G. Smith, the Black Elected Democrats of Ohio (later the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus). Rhine Lana McLin (born October 1948) is an American Democratic politician from Ohio who served as the 54th mayor of Dayton, Ohio from 2002 to 2010. McLin previously served as a member of both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly. Education McLin received her Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and secondary education from Parsons College and her Master of Education in guidance counseling from Xavier University. She also holds an associate's degree in mortuary science granted by the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Career In 1988, when McLin's father, C. J. Stephen McLin (born November 11, 1946, St. Louis), son of Leonard Dale and Hazel (Goodlett) McLin was a longtime executive in the banking industry who came to the industry from an engineering, rather than a finance background. McLin, the oldest of six children, was the son of an Air Force doctor. He grew up moving every few years, including almost three years in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his father was chief of surgery. Returning to the United States, McLin went to high school in Laredo, Texas, and graduated in 1964.
