McLaren Flat Football Club
The McLaren Flat Football Club was an Australian rules football originally formed as the Hillside Football Club in 1903 playing in the Southern Football Association. The Hillside club was named after "Hilside", a farm owned by Mr Fred Wilson of McLaren Vale, one President of the Southern Football Association. Hillside was renamed McLaren Flat in 1946 and remained in the Southern Football League until the end of the 1997 season, when they merged with the McLaren Vale Football Club and McLaren Districts Junior Football Club to form the McLaren Football Club. McLaren Flat, South Australia
McLaren Flat is a township in the McLaren Vale/Willunga basin south of Adelaide. McLaren Flat is on the sprawling flat land to the east of the town of McLaren Vale on the road to Kangarilla. At the 2016 census, the locality had a population of 1,537 of which 1,121 lived in its town centre. McLaren Flat is located within the McLaren Vale wine region. The area surrounding the town is planted to vineyards and several wineries are located in the immediate area. It has a population of 600. Sturt Football Club
The Sturt Football Club, nicknamed The Double Blues, is a semi-professional Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Unley, South Australia, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. Founded in 1901 by the Sturt Cricket Club, the club initially struggled to make the finals, however, in 1915 they won their first Premiership. After several decades of substantial finals appearances and a few premiership wins, Sturt entered a period of success, winning seven premierships from 1966 to 1976 under coach Jack Oatey. Paul Bagshaw
Paul Lynton Bagshaw (born 22 August 1946) is a former Australian rules footballer who represented in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) during the 1960s and 1970s. Bagshaw played 360 games for the Double Blues and 14 for South Australia. He also kicked 258 goals for Sturt and captained the club from 1973 to 1980. He played in seven winning grand finals. Throughout his playing career, Bagshaw played mostly as ruck-rover, but also was an effective key position player. He was one of the last players to use the drop kick frequently, and displayed outstanding handball and marking skills. His ability to achieve the seemingly impossible in tight situations gave rise to the nickname "Mr. Magic". Tony Burgan
Anthony Burgan (born 28 March 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sturt Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). When Burgan started his career at Sturt in 1967, the club were the reigning premiers and he had trouble establishing a place in the side. He missed out on their premiership that year but played in Sturt's 1968, 1969 and 1970 flags. A versatile player, Burgan was used across half back, the centre, as an on baller and at half forward over the course of his time in the SANFL. He finished with five premierships, having participated in their winning 1974 and 1976 Grand Finals.
