Floyd Bixler McKissick
Floyd Bixler McKissick (March 9, 1922 – April 28, 1991) was an American lawyer and civil rights activist. He became the first African-American student at the University of North Carolina School of Law. In 1966 he became leader of CORE, the Congress of Racial Equality, taking over from James Farmer. A supporter of Black Power, he turned CORE into a more radical movement. In 1968, McKissick left CORE to found Soul City in Warren County, North Carolina. He endorsed Richard Nixon for president that year, and the federal government, under President Nixon, supported Soul City. He became a state district court judge in 1990 and died on April 28, 1991. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Politician and attorney Floyd McKissick Jr., is his son. The Action Design
The Action Design was an American rock band formed in Petaluma, California, after the breakup of the former punk rock band Tsunami Bomb. Emily Whitehurst and Matt McKenzie came together to produce a new band self-described as "a refreshing mix of the band's punk rock roots infused with hard hitting dance rhythms and catchy basslines wrought with think memorable vocal hooks". In January 2011, on their official Facebook page, the band announced its members are currently focusing on other musical projects rather than The Action Design. While the original line-up consisted of McKenzie, Whitehurst and drummer Brett Friesen; Brett was replaced shortly after the release of their first EP at the end of 2006. WXKD (920 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Brantley, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by Roscoe Miller, through licensee Autaugaville Radio, Inc. It normally airs an Urban Contemporary format. History This station received its original construction permit from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on October 28, 1982. The new station was assigned the call letters WYNI by the FCC on December 22, 1982. WYNI received its license to cover from the FCC on March 31, 1983. In January 1993, Hub City Broadcasting Corp., then-recently acquired by Joe McKissick, reached an agreement to transfer the license for this station to McKissick Enterprises. The deal was approved by the FCC on February 24, 1993, and the transaction was consummated on April 9, 1993. In August 1999, McKissick Enterprises contracted to sell WYNI to Walter J. John McKissick
John McKissick (September 25, 1926 – November 28, 2019) was a head football coach of Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina. In 2012, he became the first American football coach in history (high school, college, or professional) to win 600 career games. His 600th win came against Summerville's Ashley Ridge High School. Up until 2013, he had never missed a game in 62 years and was the longest serving high school football coach of all time. He led Summerville to 10 state championships. With 621 wins, McKissick holds the record for most wins by a football coach at any level. He graduated from Kingstree Senior High School in Kingstree, South Carolina, then went to Presbyterian College for two years before being drafted into the Army (as a paratrooper). The Roberta Martin Singers
The Roberta Martin Singers were an American gospel group based in the United States. History Founding The group was founded in 1933 by Roberta Martin, who in that same year had just become acquainted with gospels music, which was different from the traditional spirituals which were popular at the time. Theodore Frye and Thomas A. Dorsey were directing a junior choir at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, and asked Martin to serve as the accompanist. From this junior choir, Martin selected six young men at random to form a group, Eugene Smith, Norsalus McKissick, Robert Anderson, Willie Webb, James Lawrence, and W.C. Herman. This group was named the Martin and Frye Singers, and in 1936, the group adopted the name of The Roberta Martin Singers. The Roberta Martin Singers (RMS) contained no traditional bass. Choate Rosemary Hall (often known as Choate; ) is a private, co-educational, college-preparatory boarding school in Wallingford, Connecticut, United States.
