McKenzie Mountain
McKenzie Mountain is a mountain in western Essex County in the towns of St. Armand and North Elba in the Adirondack Park, a unit of the Forest Preserve. History The mountain was formerly known as Saddleback, due to its shape. There are two trails to the top. One, maintained by NYSDEC, begins at the Jackrabbit Ski Trail, that runs between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. Lake Flower
Lake Flower is a lake in Franklin County, New York, Franklin County and Essex County, New York, Essex County in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York in the United States. The lake was created by damming the Saranac River in 1827. It was originally called the Mill Pond, but was later named for New York (state), New York Governor Roswell P. Flower. It is the only lake within the village of Saranac Lake, New York, Saranac Lake. Gothics
Gothics is a mountain in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondack Mountains. The mountain gets its name due to its large rock slides' resemblance to Gothic architecture. The summit has near 360 degree views, which combined with its location in the High Peaks Region, gives splendid views of the Adirondacks. Armstrong Mountain
Armstrong Mountain is a mountain located in Essex County, New York, named after Thomas Armstrong, a local pioneer. The mountain is part of the Great Range of the Adirondack Mountains. Armstrong Mtn. is flanked to the southwest by Gothics, and to the northeast by Upper Wolfjaw Mountain. Armstrong Mountain stands within the watershed of the East Branch of the Ausable River, which drains into Lake Champlain, thence into Canada's Richelieu River, the Saint Lawrence River, and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The east side of Armstrong Mtn. drains into the East Branch of the Ausable River. The west side of Armstrong Mtn. drains into Ore Bed Brook, thence into Johns Brook and the East Branch. Lower Saranac Lake
Lower Saranac Lake is one of three connected lakes, part of the Saranac River, near the village of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in northern New York. With Middle Saranac Lake and Upper Saranac Lake, a paddle with only one portage is possible. The Saranac Lake Islands Public Campground provides 87 campsites on inlands in Lower and Middle Saranac Lake. Debar Mountain Wild Forest
The Debar Mountain Wild Forest is a tract designated as Wild Forest by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the northeastern Adirondack Park, just north of Paul Smiths, in Franklin County. The area includes of state land and of conservation easement land. The area is served by state routes NY-3, NY-30 and NY-458. Activities supported include hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, horse back riding, mountain biking, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, canoeing and boating. Saint Regis Mountain
Saint Regis Mountain is a mountain in the town of Santa Clara, New York, in Franklin County at the center of the Saint Regis Canoe Area in the Adirondack Park. It can be climbed from a trailhead on Keese Mills Road in Keese Mill, west of Paul Smiths. The trail is a gradual 3.3 mile ascent with a gain of 1168 feet. The view from the summit includes thirty lakes, including the Upper and Lower Saranac Lake, and Upper and Lower Saint Regis Lake. The Adirondack High Peaks can also be seen. The summit is bare rock, having been cleared by a fire started accidentally by a surveying party led by Verplanck Colvin in 1876. Azure Mountain
Azure Mountain is a mountain near Blue Mountain Road in the Adirondack Park town of Waverly in Franklin County, New York. Azure Mountain is the site of the Azure Mountain Fire Observation Station, a steel tower that was built in 1918 and later restored in 2002. The fire tower was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Azure tower In 1914, the Conservation Commission built a wood fire lookout tower on the mountain. In 1918, the Conservation Commission replaced it with a Aermotor LS40 steel tower. There is an inscription on one of the legs of the tower that reads "W. H. Finley, Keeseville, 7/29/1918". Saranac River
Saranac River ( moh, Tsi ietsénhtha) is an river in the U.S. state of New York. In its upper reaches is a region of mostly flat water and lakes. Seward Mountain is a mountain located in Franklin County, New York, of which it is the highest point. Seward Mtn. is named after William H. Great Range
The Great Range is a mountain range in the Adirondack Mountains, near Keene Valley, New York, United States. It rises in the heart of the High Peaks region between Ausable Lakes to the southeast and the Johns Brook Valley to the northwest. The range is approximately long and includes seven of the forty-six High Peaks. Geography The lake is approximately , and has an average depth of about . It is located in the towns of North Elba and St. Armand, both in Essex County. There are three islands on Lake Placid, named Buck, Moose, and Hawk. Conservation The lake borders the northern part of the village of Lake Placid, and is a source of drinking water for the town.
