Ralph Lewis (actor)
Ralph Percy Lewis (October 8, 1872 – December 4, 1937) was an American actor of the silent film era. Born in 1872 in Englewood, Illinois, Lewis attended Northwestern University. Lewis appeared in 160 films between 1912 and 1938. The character actor remains perhaps best remembered for his role as abolitionist U.S. Representative Austin Stoneman in D. W. Griffith's ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915) and the governor in '' Intolerance'' (1916). Lewis's film debut came in 1912. He also starred in one of the early Hollywood sound shorts, ''Gaunt'', in 1931. He was married to actress Vera Lewis. Lewis died in Los Angeles, California, on December 4, 1937, after being hit on November 25, 1937 by a limousine driven by a chauffeur working for Jack L. Warner. John Lowell (April 11, 1875 - September 19, 1937) was an American film actor in starred in several productions during the silent era. He is sometimes credited as John Lowell Russell. Biography Lowell was born in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. He was married to the screenwriter Lillian Case Russell. The actress Evangeline Russell and the cinematographer John L. Russell were their children. Lowell began his film career in 1919, appearing in two shorts. He was a producer for Lowell Film Productions, whose work included '' Red Love'' (1925). On September 19, 1937, Lowell died in Los Angeles, California. James Flavin
James William Flavin Jr. (May 14, 1906 – April 23, 1976) was an American character actor whose career lasted for nearly half a century. Early life The son of a hotel waiter of Canadian-English descent,Flavin's obituary, distributed by United Press International, says that he was born in Portland, Oregon. the Portland, Maine-born Flavin attended the United States Military Academy, where he played football. Career Summer stock companies flocked to Maine each year, and in 1929 Flavin was asked to fill in for an actor. He did well with the part and the company manager offered him $150 per week to accompany the troupe back to New York. Flavin accepted and by the spring of 1930, he resided in a rooming house at 108 W. 87th Street in Manhattan. Flavin worked his way across the country in stock productions and tours, arriving in Los Angeles around 1932.
