McGuire (Formula One)
McGuire was a Formula One racing car constructor founded by Australian driver Brian McGuire. The team participated in one Formula One World Championship Grand Prix but failed to qualify. Brian McGuire first started to race in the British-based Shellsport G8 International Series in 1976, as a private entry with the Formula One-specification Williams FW04. He also entered the car for the 1976 British Grand Prix but was only listed as a reserve and never made it on to the track. For the 1977 season McGuire made extensive modifications to the Williams and it was entered for the 1977 British Grand Prix as the McGuire BM1. However, the car was uncompetitive in the special pre-qualifying sessions, slower than all the other entrants except Mikko Kozarowitzky who had an accident, and McGuire failed to make it through to the full qualifying sessions. Brian McGuire (13 December 1945 – 29 August 1977) was a racing driver and constructor from Australia. Racing career and death McGuire travelled over to the UK from Australia with another hopeful young driver, Alan Jones, but did not enjoy his countryman's success. McGuire entered two Formula One British Grands Prix. With his privately run Williams FW04 at the 1976 British Grand Prix, he found himself as a reserve entry and was denied a chance to compete. For the 1977 race, he modified his Williams FW04 and renamed it the McGuire BM1, but failed to pre-qualify. McGuire was killed practicing this car during a Shellsport G8 Championship race at Brands Hatch later that year. The 1977 United States Grand Prix West (officially the Long Beach Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on April 3, 1977 in Long Beach, California. The 1977 Japanese Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 23 October 1977 at Fuji. It was the 17th and final race of the 1977 Formula One World Championship. At the time, this was the last Japanese Grand Prix due to traveling and financial issues (in those days, in order to get to Japan from Europe required going through Anchorage, Alaska in the United States or through Hong Kong, as both the Soviet Union and Red China banned Western aircraft from flying in their airspace) and safety concerns with the Mount Fuji circuit, it was also the last Japanese Grand Prix to be held at Fuji Speedway until 2007. The 1977 Italian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Monza on September 11, 1977. The 1977 Dutch Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Circuit Zandvoort on 28 August 1977. Report In qualifying, Mario Andretti took his fifth pole of the season with Jacques Laffite alongside on the front row, and James Hunt third. At the start, Hunt jumped both the front row starters to lead but before the end of the first lap, Andretti tried to drive alongside him but some aggressive defending from Hunt forced him to lift, and Laffite took advantage to get second. The 1977 German Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Hockenheimring on 31 July 1977. It was the eleventh race of the 1977 World Championship of F1 Drivers and the 1977 International Cup for F1 Constructors.
