McGillivray Creek (British Columbia)
McGillivray Creek is a creek located in the Interior of British Columbia, in the Lillooet Country. The creek originates in the Cadwallader Range, below Prospector Peaks, and flows southeast into Anderson Lake near D'Arcy, which is about midway between Pemberton and Lillooet along the rail line. It originates at an elevation of , while the mouth lies at an elevation of . McGillivray Falls, on the lower reaches of the creek, is a notable waterfall in the district and is the namesake of the one-time railway-lakeside resort, McGillivray Falls, British Columbia, which is located at trackside around the creek's mouth. During World War II, this was one of four communities in the Lillooet Country which were "self-supporting" centres for Japanese-Canadians ordered away from the Coast. McGillivray, formerly McGillivray Falls, is an unincorporated recreational community on the west shore of Anderson Lake, just east of midway between the towns of Pemberton and Lillooet, British Columbia, Canada, in that province's southwest Interior. History McGillivray's name is derived from the names of Mount McGillivray and McGillivray Creek and its falls, which were said to be named by a miner, according to a 1911 note by Caspar Phair, Gold Commissioner for the Lillooet Mining District. A parallel account, possibly the same, says the name derives one of two placer-mining partners, McGillivray and McDonald, though the name Jack McGillivray, an early miner, also appears in records and mirrors the local pronunciation of the name (McGILL-var-ee). McGillivray Pass
McGillivray Pass (1867 m or 6215 ft) is a mountain pass in the Pacific Ranges of southwestern British Columbia, Canada, located about 30 miles west of the town of Lillooet and immediately west of the upper end of Anderson Lake, above the former resort community of McGillivray (formerly McGillivray Falls). The pass connects the head of McGillivray Creek with the head of Standard Creek, a tributary of Cadwallader Creek and was used as a route by prospectors, miners and hunters heading for the upper Bridge River Country beyond the pass. The pass was proposed at one time for a cog railway to connect the mines at Bralorne and Pioneer with the Pacific Great Eastern Railway (now part of CN but the project never went forward. Mount McGillivray
Mount McGillivray is a mountain summit located in the Bow Valley of Kananaskis Country in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. Its nearest higher peak is Skogan Peak, to the southeast. Mount McGillivray is a landmark that can be seen from Highway 1, the Trans-Canada Highway in the Exshaw area. History Mount McGillivray was named for Duncan McGillivray (1770-1808), one of the first white men along with David Thompson (explorer), David Thompson to see the Bow River, Bow Valley. In November 1800, McGillivray and Thompson rode south on a trip from the newly established fort at Rocky Mountain House and explored west into the Bow Valley as far as what is now Mount McGillivray in search of the headwaters of the Columbia River.
