Helen McElhone
Helen Margaret McElhone (née Brown; 10 April 1933 – 5 June 2013) was a Scottish politician. She worked together with her husband, Frank McElhone, during his time as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Glasgow from 1969. After his sudden death, McElhone was elected as his successor; but within six months her Glasgow Queen's Park constituency was abolished in boundary changes and she lost out to a neighbouring MP in the selection for a new seat. She continued her political activity after leaving Parliament. Married life McElhone was born Helen Margaret Brown in Glasgow. Arthur McElhone
Arthur Joseph McElhone (22 July 1868 – 17 June 1946) was an Australian politician and businessman. An independent, McElhone was a long-serving alderman for the City of Sydney, originally from 1899 to 1927, and again from 1930 until his death in 1946. In 1935, he became Lord Mayor of Sydney, following the death of Sir Alfred Parker. He was also twice chairman of the Sydney County Council (1937–1938, 1945–1946). He served as a director of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for 27 years. McElhone was born in Sydney, the son of New South Wales politician John McElhone and his wife Mary Jane (' Browne). John McElhone
John McElhone (16 June 1833 – 6 May 1898) was an Australian politician. He was born in Sydney to milk vendor Terence McElhone and Catherine Mallon. He attended St Mary's Seminary School and was an apprentice seaman from 1851. In 1859 he was a commercial agent, and from 1867 to 1872 he was a merchant dealing with hide and tallow. On 5 February 1862 he married Mary Jane Browne, with whom he had nine children. Two of his sons, William Percy (1871–1932) and Arthur Joseph (1868–1946), each served as Lord Mayor of Sydney. A Sydney City alderman from 1878 to 1882, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1875 as the member for Upper Hunter. In 1882 he was concurrently elected for both Upper Hunter and East Sydney, resigning from East Sydney shortly after. In 1883 he challenged Adolphus Taylor to resign his seat and both would contest Taylor's seat of Mudgee. Frank McElhone
Francis Patrick McElhone (5 April 1929 – 22 September 1982) was a Scottish Labour Party politician. McElhone was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow Gorbals in a 1969 by-election. He served until the constituency was abolished in boundary changes for the February 1974 general election. He was then elected as MP for Glasgow Queen's Park, and held that seat until his death from a heart attack on 22 September 1982, aged 53, shortly after participating in a march and demonstration in support of National Health Service workers in Glasgow. He served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland from 1975 to 1979. After his death, his widow, Helen McElhone, was elected to represent Glasgow Queen's Park. She only served for a few months before the seat was abolished by boundary changes.
