McClurg Museum
The McClurg Museum is a renovated mansion in Westfield, New York that serves as the home of the Chautauqua County Historical Society. It is a volunteer-run museum containing various artifacts collected by the historical society along with an extensive library and photo collection. It is open to the public and local schools for educational purposes. History The museum was initially a mansion built in 1818 by James McClurg, the son of a wealthy Pittsburgh industrialist. It is said McClurg baked the bricks, prepared the lumber and brought bricklayers from Pittsburgh to construct the building, which was dubbed by locals “McClurg’s Folly” because of its large rooms and high ceilings, which stood in high contrast to the crude log cabins around it. Westfield (village), New York
Westfield is a village in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 2993 at the 2020 census. The village lies within the town of Westfield in the northern part of the county. The village is known as the "Grape Juice Capital of the World" because it lies roughly in the geographical center of of vineyards, most of which are the Concord grapes from which grape juice is produced, for years was corporate headquarters for the Welch's Grape Juice company, and is still home to a Welch's processing plant and other grape-related manufacturers. Significant institutions in the village include the McClurg Mansion, Westfield Memorial Hospital, Westfield Academy, and the Patterson Library.
