McArthur River Uranium Mine
The McArthur River Uranium Mine, in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, is the world's largest high-grade uranium deposit. The McArthur River deposit was discovered in 1988. The property is located as the crow flies north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and northeast of the Key Lake mill in the uranium rich Athabasca Basin. Mine construction began in 1997, with production commencing in 1999. The mine achieved full commercial production in November 2000. Production is regulated at of yellowcake a year with the ore being processed through the Key Lake mill. Between 2000 and 2013, the McArthur River/Key Lake operation produced U3O8. This production figure includes blended low grade stockpiles from the former Key Lake mine as well as ore derived from the McArthur River mine. McArthur Basin
The McArthur Basin is a large intracratonic sedimentary basin in northern Australia, with an exposed area of about 180,000 km2. Most of it lies within the northeastern Northern Territory, but extends over the border into the state of Queensland. The basin contains thick (locally up to 12 km) marine and non-marine sedimentary rocks which were deposited from the late Paleoproterozoic to the early Mesoproterozoic (1800-1430 Ma). The basin also contains some volcanic rocks and related intrusive igneous rocks. North Antelope Rochelle Mine
The North Antelope Rochelle Mine is the largest Coal mining, coal mine in the world. Located in Campbell County, Wyoming, about south of Gillette, Wyoming, Gillette, it produced 85.3 million tons of coal in 2019. Peabody Energy opened the North Antelope Mine in the heart of Wyoming's Powder River Basin in 1983. The Rochelle mine was opened in 1984. They were combined in 1999, making the largest coal mine in the United States. In nuclear power technology, burnup (also known as fuel utilization) is a measure of how much energy is extracted from a primary nuclear fuel source. Enriched uranium is a type of uranium in which the percent composition of uranium-235 (written 235U) has been increased through the process of isotope separation. Naturally occurring uranium is composed of three major isotopes: uranium-238 (238U with 99.2739–99.2752% natural abundance), uranium-235 (235U, 0.7198–0.7202%), and uranium-234 (234U, 0.0050–0.0059%). 235U is the only nuclide existing in nature (in any appreciable amount) that is fissile with thermal neutrons. CANDU
The CANDU (Canada Deuterium Uranium) is a Canadian pressurized heavy-water reactor design used to generate electric power. The acronym refers to its deuterium oxide ( heavy water) moderator and its use of (originally, natural) uranium fuel. Saskatchewan Highway 914
Highway 914 is a provincial highway in the north-west and far north regions of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It begins at a turn in Highway 165 and officially ends at Key Lake mine. Highway 914 goes north through scenic parts of Saskatchewan, including Pinehouse Lake and Gordon Lake, and does not intersect with any province-owned roads between 165 and Key Lake Mine. Highway 914 is about 268 km (167 mi) long. Along its entire length, it passes through only one town, Pinehouse.
