New Left (Poland)
The New Left (, NL) is a social-democratic political party in Poland. It is positioned on the centre-left on the political spectrum. Its leaders are Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Robert Biedroń. It was formed in 2021, as a merger of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) and Spring, although the plans for the merge began in 2020. It is a part of The Left coalition, together with the left-wing Left Together party. It holds pro-European views. Spring ( pl, Wiosna) was a social-liberal and pro-European political party in Poland led by a former mayor of Słupsk, Robert Biedroń. History The party was founded on 3 February 2019 in Hala Torwar and ran in the 2019 European elections, winning three seats. For the 2019 parliamentary election, the party formed a coalition with the Democratic Left Alliance and Razem, known as The Left, winning 19 seats in the Sejm. The party was set to merge with the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) into a unitary party called the New Left in 2021. On Sunday 26 May 2019, a vote was held to elect the Polish delegation to the European Parliament. Polish voters elected 52 MEPs, compared to 51 in the 2014 election. The increased number of MEPs is a result of the 2018 reapportionment of seats in the European Parliament. Following the United Kingdom's announcement, that it will participate in elections to the European Parliament on May 23, Poland will continue to be represented by 51 MEPs. The 52nd MEP will take up their mandate immediately after the UK leaves the European Union. Following the announcement of the election results, the National Electoral Commission indicated Dominik Tarczyński from Lesser Poland and Świętokrzyskie will take up the 52nd seat. Europa Plus (Poland)
Europa Plus (formally Europa Plus Social Movement, pl, Ruch Społeczny Europa Plus) was a pro-European centre-left coalition of parties in Poland, formed to contest the 2014 European Parliament election. The alliance described itself as a "modern centre-left formation". The coalition was founded on 3 February 2013 by the Palikot's Movement, Social Democracy of Poland, Labour United, the Union of the Left and the Reason Party. The project was led by Marek Siwiec (a former Vice President of the Democratic Left Alliance and then-current MEP), Aleksander Kwasniewski (a former President of Poland and member of the Democratic Left Alliance) and Janusz Palikot.
