Mazı Underground City
Mazı Underground City is an ancient underground settlement in Cappadocia in central Turkey. It is located 18 kilometers from Ürgüp and 10 kilometers east from the Kaymaklı Underground City. The city is one of many subterranean cities in Cappadocia including Özkonak, Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı. History The ancient name of the city was known as Mataza. The presence of the city dates back to as early as the Roman period. The city contains tombs dating back to the early Roman period and also contains aspects of the Byzantium period. Description Mazi is carved to the west of the village perpendicular to the valley slope. It contained four different access points for entrance and exit to the city which all lead to a central hall. The main entrance to the city is made of millstone in which a stone could be rolled over and used to cover the entrance. The architecture includes steep tunnels networking between corridors. History The Suzhou numeral system is the only surviving variation of the rod numeral system. The rod numeral system is a positional numeral system used by the Chinese in mathematics. Suzhou numerals are a variation of the Southern Song rod numerals. Suzhou numerals were used as shorthand in number-intensive areas of commerce such as accounting and bookkeeping. At the same time, standard Chinese numerals were used in formal writing, akin to spelling out the numbers in English. Mazi Melesa Pilip (born ) is a Republican legislator in New York's Nassau County Legislature representing Nassau County, Long Island's 10th district. She is an Ethiopian Jew who was born in a poor village in Ethiopia, immigrated to Israel when she was 12 years old, and later served in the Israel Defense Force's Paratroopers Brigade. She studied at the University of Haifa, where she earned a bachelors degree in occupational therapy, and also studied at Tel Aviv University, where she earned a masters degree in diplomacy and security. In November 2021, Pilip was elected to the Nassau County Legislature. Mazi Smith (born June 16, 2001) is an American football defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Michigan and was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Early life and high school career Smith was born on June 16, 2001. He attended East Kentwood High School in Kentwood, Michigan. He was rated by ESPN as the No. 38 recruit in the Class of 2019 and the year's second best defensive tackle. He is of Nigerian descent. College career During the 2021 season, Smith started all 14 games for Michigan. He had 37 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, and four quarterback hurries.
