The Mayor of Hyderabad is the head of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which is abbreviated as GHMC. The tenure for the post of GHMC is for 5 years. In India, a Mayor heads a municipal corporation which governs respective Indian towns and cities. The Mayor of a city is the first citizen of that city. Municipal corporation mechanisms in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. However the process of introduction for an elected President in the municipalities was made in Lord Mayo's Resolution of 1870. Since then the current form and structure of municipal bodies followed is similar to Lord Ripon's Resolution adopted in 1882 on local self-governance. Bonthu Rammohan (born 5 July 1973) is an Indian politician who was the Mayor of GHMC Hyderabad from 2016 to 2020. He belongs to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party. Bonthu has become the first mayor of Hyderabad after the formation of Telangana. Early life Bonthu was born in the village of Amanagal in the district of Warangal to Venkatayya and Kamalamma. Personal life He is married with Sridevi on 7 February 2004 and has two daughters: Kujitha and Ushasri. Education and student politics He completed his primary and secondary education in Mahabubabad and later attended SSC Junior College for his higher secondary education.
