Quincy, Massachusetts
Quincy ( ) is a coastal U.S. city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. It is the largest city in the county and a part of Greater Boston, Metropolitan Boston as one of Boston's immediate southern suburbs. Its population in 2020 was 101,636, making it the seventh-largest city in the U.S. state, state. Known as the "City of Presidents", Quincy is the birthplace of two President of the United States, U.S. presidents—John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams—as well as John Hancock (a President of the Continental Congress and the first signer of the United States Declaration of Independence, Declaration of Independence) and the first and third Governor of Massachusetts. Progressive Party (United States, 1912)
The Progressive Party was a third party in the United States formed in 1912 by former president Theodore Roosevelt after he lost the presidential nomination of the Republican Party to his former protégé rival, incumbent president William Howard Taft. The new party was known for taking advanced positions on progressive reforms and attracting leading national reformers. The party was also ideologically deeply connected with America's indigenous radical-liberal tradition. After the party's defeat in the 1912 presidential election, it went into rapid decline in elections until 1918, disappearing by 1920. The Progressive Party was popularly nicknamed the "Bull Moose Party" when Roosevelt boasted that he felt "strong as a bull moose" after losing the Republican nomination in June 1912 at the Chicago convention. James McIntyre (politician)
James Richard McIntyre (May 25, 1930 – March 7, 1984) was an American attorney and politician who served as Mayor of Quincy, Massachusetts, and as a member of the Massachusetts General Court. Early life McIntyre was born on May 25, 1930, in Quincy. He earned an undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross in 1951. McIntyre then served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was decorated for distinguished service. After the war he received a law degree from the Harvard Law School in 1956 and a master's degree in political science from Boston University in 1960. Amelio A. Della Chiesa (1901-1975) was an American politician who served as mayor of Quincy, Massachusetts. Early life Della Chiesa was born on July 31, 1901 in Quincy, Massachusetts. He attended public schools in Quincy, Massachusetts, including the Quincy Trade School, but dropped out in eighth grade. At the age of sixteen he became a journeyman plumber at 17 he became the youngest master plumber in Massachusetts. Political career Della Chiesa began his political career in 1943 when he succeeded his brother, Aldo (who had entered the military), on the Quincy City Council. From 1954 to 1957, Della Chiesa served as Quincy's mayor under the Plan E form of government, in which the position of Mayor was a ceremonial one appointed by the city council while the government was run by a city manager.
