Mayfield Fellows Program
The Mayfield Fellows Program is a university program that offers students in-depth training and experience in high-tech entrepreneurship. The program, originally called the "Technology Ventures Co-op" was founded in 1996 at Stanford University and expanded in 2001 to include the University of California, Berkeley. The two programs each have a slightly different focus. At Stanford, the students are juniors, senior, and co-terminal masters students, primarily in engineering and science. At Berkeley, the students are generally graduate students in business or engineering. The students benefit from doing case studies in the classroom, interning at high-tech startup companies, and meeting with senior-level mentors from those companies in the industry. Mike Krieger
Michel Krieger (born March 4, 1986) is a Brazilian-American entrepreneur and software engineer who co-founded Instagram along with Kevin Systrom, and served as its CTO. Instagram expanded from a few million users to 1 billion monthly active users while Krieger served as CTO. On September 24, 2018, it was announced that Krieger and Systrom were resigning from Instagram. Instagram is a photo and video sharing social networking service owned by American company Meta Platforms. The app allows users to upload media that can be edited with filters and organized by hashtags and geographical tagging. Posts can be shared publicly or with preapproved followers. Users can browse other users' content by tag and location, view trending content, like photos, and follow other users to add their content to a personal feed. Instagram was originally distinguished by allowing content to be framed only in a square (1:1) aspect ratio of 640 pixels to match the display width of the iPhone at the time. Kevin Systrom (born December 30, 1983) is an American computer programmer and entrepreneur. He co-founded Instagram, the world's largest photo sharing website, along with Mike Krieger. Systrom was included on the list of America's Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 2016. Under Systrom as CEO, Instagram became a fast growing app, with 800 million monthly users as of September 2017. Experience Project was a free social networking website consisting of various online communities. It operated from 2007 until 2016, when it announced it would suspend registrations and enter a read-only mode for an indefinite period. Members submitted "experiences"—their personal, first-person stories about various life experiences they had. Users could then form or join communities based on these experiences and/or interests, and interact with other members who shared them.
