Mayfield is a small community in northeast Baltimore, Maryland. It is bounded by Erdman Avenue on the south, Chesterfield Avenue on the north, Crossland Avenue on the east and Lake Montebello on the north and west. Homeowners belong to the Mayfield Improvement Association. Demographics According to the 2000 US Census, 955 people live in Mayfield with 77% White and 18.8% African-American. The median family income is $80,191. 94.9% of the houses are occupied and 85.1% of those are occupied by the home's owner. Schools Mayfield has two elementary schools: Montebello Elementary (Public grade school K-5) and St. Francis of Assisi School (Catholic grade school K-8). Lake Montebello
Lake Montebello is a reservoir located near Mayfield and Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello in Northeast Baltimore City in central Maryland. The lake was excavated and constructed in 1881, and nearby Montebello Filtration Plants 1 and 2 were completed in 1915 and 1928, respectively. The lake contains approximately 410 million gallons of water, with a maximum storage of 606 million gallons. Today, the lake continues to act as a settling basin for what goes on in the filtration plant. A 1.3 mile bike and walking path lines the lake and are used as a recreational area for the surrounding community. Mergenthaler Vocational Technical Senior High School
Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School (commonly referred to as "Mervo" or "MerVo-Tech") is a public high school in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is one of the two premiere vocational-technical high schools of the city, the other being Carver Vocational-Technical High School, on Presstman Street, on the other side of the city in West Baltimore. Mervo was opened in 1953, established as a vocational-technical school that is named after Ottmar Mergenthaler (1854-1899), the inventor of the Linotype typesetting machine which revolutionized the printing and newspaper industries. The school, according to its website, uses its curriculum to "educate students to function in an industrial and challenging technological society." All students must apply and meet certain standards of entrance criteria for acceptance to the school.
