Mayani
Mayani is a town in Satara district of Maharashtra state in India. It is situated on the National Highway NH-160. This town is well known for a notified Bird Conservation Reserve in 2021. Geography This town is situated on the banks of Chand river, a tributary of Yerla river. It is 24 km away from Vaduj, tehsil headquarters of taluka and located in the southeastern part of Khatav taluka of Satara district. It is 20 km away from Vita in Sangli district. On 15 March 2021, the Government of Maharashtra notified the Mayani Bird Conservation Reserve in Mayani. This bird conservation site is located at old Mayani dam on Chand river. Contribution in Indian Freedom Struggle Forest Satyagraha was important phase of Civil Disobedience Movement in which peasants played a significant role. Mayani Bird Sanctuary
Mayani Bird Conservation Reserve is located in Vaduj Forest Range of Satara Forest Division of Satara district. It came into existence with the notification WLP1220/CR-246/F-1 dated 15th March, 2021. It is about 71 km from Satara. Area Mayani Conservation Reserve is of 866.75 hectares (8.67 sq.km.) and it is spread over 6 villages of Vaduj taluka namely Mayani, Kankatre, Ambavade, Nadval, Yeralwadi, Banpuri. Mayani Dam (Talav) The Mayani bird sanctuary is established on an old dam. Birds like the northern shoveller, stork and kingfisher can be found at the sanctuary. Vaduj is a major town in Satara district of Maharashtra, India. It is the headquarters of Khatav Taluka. It is located on the banks of the Yerala River, and is around away from the district capital Satara, and away from Pune. Prachitgad is a fort in the Sahyadri mountain range in Sangli district of Maharashtra state, India. It covers an area of . Location It is located at on the western edge of Chandoli National Park in Sangli district but easiest way to reach is from Ratnagiri district at Shringarpur.It is located on the boundaries of 4 districts Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri and Satara. It is very remote place to reach from Sangli side due to dense Forrest and mountain terrain. The closest city is Sangameshwar which is approximately 22 km away. Salt March
The Salt March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, Dandi March and the Dandi Satyagraha, was an act of nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India led by Mahatma Gandhi. The twenty-four day march lasted from 12 March to 6 April 1930 as a direct action campaign of tax resistance and nonviolent protest against the British salt monopoly. Another reason for this march was that the Civil Disobedience Movement needed a strong inauguration that would inspire more people to follow Gandhi's example. Yerla River
The Yerla River, alternatively Yerala River, is a tributary of Krishna River. It originates from the Mhaskoba hills in the north of Khatav taluka of Satara district. It runs between Vardhangad and Mahimangad ranges and its total length is about 120 km. In Satara district , it passes through Mol, Lalgun, Pusegaon, Khatav, Vaduj and Nimsod. Later in Sangli district it joins Krishna River near Brahmanal. The Yerala is nonperennial river.
