Maya (American TV Series)
''Maya'' is an American hour-long adventure television series that aired on NBC, Saturdays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., from September 16, 1967 until February 10, 1968.Brooks, Tim & Marsh, Earle, The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network TV Shows 1946–present, Ballantine, 1979 The series is a follow-up to the 1966 film of the same name, with Jay North and Sajid Khan reprising their roles. Set in the Indian jungle, the series centered on an American boy searching for his missing father, a big game hunter. Synopsis The series starred teenage Jay North (famous for starring as ''Dennis the Menace'' as a child) as Terry Bowen, and Indian actor Sajid Khan (also prominent in his homeland from his child-acting background) as Raji, a native boy who joined up with the lead. Jay North
Jay North (born August 3, 1951) is an American actor. His career as a child actor began in the late 1950s with roles in eight TV series, two variety shows and three feature films. At age 7 he became a household name for his role as the well-meaning but mischievous Dennis Mitchell on the CBS situation comedy '' Dennis the Menace'' (1959–1963), based on the comic strip created by Hank Ketcham. As a teen North had roles in two Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer feature films: '' Zebra in the Kitchen'' and ''Maya''. He also starred in the NBC television series adaptation of the latter film, also titled ''Maya''. As an adult he turned to voice acting for animated television series, voicing the roles of Prince Turhan in the '' Arabian Knights'' segment of ''The Banana Splits Adventure Hour'' and a teenaged Bamm-Bamm Rubble on ''The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show''. Maxwell Shane
Maxwell Shane (August 26, 1905 – October 25, 1983) was an American movie and television director, screenwriter, and producer. Biography Before embarking in a career in show business, Shane studied law at USC and UCLA law schools. He later became a journalist and moved on to become a Hollywood publicist. Along with David Hillman (father of musician Chris Hillman), he founded the Hillman-Shane Advertising Agency, in Los Angeles. Shane later became a screenwriter. Most of his early work was for forgettable low-budget films. Becoming a director in 1947, he worked on noirish films, as a writer or director, like '' Hell's Island'', '' Fear in the Night'' and the remake ''Nightmare''. Shane scripted '' City Across the River'', the 1949 film of Irving Shulman's ''The Amboy Dukes'', and directed 1955's '' The Naked Street'', starring Anthony Quinn and Anne Bancroft.
