Matéo Maximoff (; 17 January 1917 – 24 November 1999) was a French writer and Evangelicalism, Evangelical pastor of Romani people, Romani ethnicity. His eleven books have been translated into fourteen languages. Born in Spain, he had parents who had migrated from Russia and France. His family sought shelter in France with relatives during the Spanish Civil War. Yevgeny Yakovlevich Maximov (russian: Евге́ний Я́ковлевич Макси́мов; 4 March 1849 – 14 October 1904) was a Russian adventurer, soldier and journalist mostly remembered for his service with the South African Republic during the Second Anglo-Boer War. Early life Maximov was born in Tsarskoye Selo, an upper class suburb of St. Petersburg, the son of a Russian naval officer and a Swedish aristocrat. During his youth, he studied at the Institute of Technology and the law faculty of St. Petersburg University. Vassily Maximovich Maximov (russian: Васи́лий Максимо́вич Макси́мов; – ) was a Russian painter, a prominent member of the Peredvizhniki group. Biography Maximov was born to a peasant family in the village of Lopino in the Saint Petersburg Governorate, near Novaya Ladoga. He became an orphan early and worked for an Iconpainting shop, where he first learned to paint. In 1863 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts and in 1864 he became a member of an Artel of Artists created by P.N. Krestonovtsev by the example of Ivan Kramskoi. The artel existed only one year and was then disbanded. Maximov painted the ''Sick Child'' (1864) at that time, when received a Gold Medal of the Academia. He completed all the courses of the Academy in three years. Valentina Mikhailovna Maksimova (russian: Валентина Михайловна Максимова; born 21 May 1937) is a retired Russian track cyclist. She won silver medals in the sprint at four consecutive world championships in 1958–1961, behind Galina Ermolaeva. Between 1953 and 1955 she set seven Soviet records in 200–500 m events. Nina Mikhailovna Christesen (23 December 1911 – 8 August 2001) (née Maximoff) pioneered the study of Russian in Australia and founded the Department of Russian Language and Literature at the University of Melbourne in 1946. Personal life and education Christesen was born on 23 December 1911 in Blagoveshchensk, Russia to Mikhail (Michael) Ivanovitch (6 Sep 1885–1967) and Tatiana Siemenovna (c.1889–1979) Maximoff.
