Maxi (Canadian Supermarket)
Maxi is a discount grocery retailer based in Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1984 by Provigo, it is a division of Loblaw Companies and the largest of Loblaws' Quebec supermarket chains. Maxi is the Quebec equivalent of No Frills, a chain of franchised discount grocery stores outside Quebec, except that Maxi stores are owned by the company. Over 7,000 people are employed at the Maxi and Maxi & Cie stores across Quebec. History The first Maxi store opened November 19, 1984 in a former Kmart location in Longueuil. Maxi was intended to be a larger spinoff version of Provigo's Héritage supermarket chain. By 1987, Maxi had grown to a chain of six locations and three of these stores included a day-care centre for parents to leave their children for up to 90 minutes while shopping. La Tribune (Sherbrooke)
''La Tribune'' is a Canadian daily newspaper published in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The newspaper was founded on 21 February 1910 by Jacob Nicol, who would be appointed as senator in 1944. The first issue was published from a building in rue Wellington nord. The address later moved to 221 rue Dufferin at rue Frontenac and, in October 1976, again to 1950 rue Roy, in the industrial park in the west of the city. It was purchased by Paul Desmarais in 1955. It was sold on 14 March 2015 by Gesca to Groupe Capitales Médias, run by Martin Cauchon. The sale included ''La Tribune'' and five other regional publications. The paper spawned a radio and television station with the CHLT call letters. The radio station is now CKOY-FM, while the television station still has the CHLT calls. ''Pushing Tin'' is a 1999 American comedy-drama film directed by Mike Newell. Steinberg's (renamed Steinberg in 1961) was a large family-owned Canadian grocery store chain that mainly operated in the province of Quebec and later Ontario. In addition to its flagship supermarket chain, the company operated several subsidiaries across the country. The company went bankrupt in 1992, three years after being sold to private interests, after 75 years in business. Beginning Steinberg's began as a grocery store founded in 1917 in Montreal by Jewish-Hungarian immigrant, Ida Steinberg. Her five sons, led by Sam Steinberg, grew the company from a tiny storefront on St. Lawrence Boulevard into the most popular and largest supermarket chain in Quebec.
