Max Dennison
Max Dennison is a digital matte painter and illustrator. After secondary education at Villiers School in Limerick, and then art school, Dennison established a career producing matte paintings and concept work for the special effects industry. Dennison worked on several films, including Peter Jackson's '' The Lord of the Rings'' and John Madden's '' Shakespeare in Love''. In 2003, while supervising the matte painting department at Weta Digital on ''Lord of the Rings'', Dennison was also nominated for the award of "Best Matte Painting in a Motion Picture" by the Visual Effects Society for his work on ''The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers''. Shepperton Studios is a film studio located in Shepperton, Surrey, England, with a history dating back to 1931. It is now part of the Pinewood Studios Group. During its early existence, the studio was branded as Sound City (not to be confused with the Californian recording studio of the same name). History 1930s–1960s Shepperton Studios was built on the grounds of Littleton Park, which was built in the 17th century by local nobleman Thomas Wood. The old mansion still stands on the site. A matte painting is a painting, painted representation of a landscape, set (film and TV scenery), set, or distant location that allows filmmaking, filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that is not present at the filming location. Historically, matte painters and film technicians have used various techniques to combine a matte-painted image with live-action footage (compositing). At its best, depending on the skill levels of the artists and technicians, the effect is "seamless" and creates environments that would otherwise be impossible or expensive to film.
