Max Delbrück
Max Ludwig Henning Delbrück (; September 4, 1906 – March 9, 1981) was a German–American biophysicist who participated in launching the molecular biology research program in the late 1930s. He stimulated physical science, physical scientists' interest into biology, especially as to basic research to physically explain genes, mysterious at the time. Formed in 1945 and led by Delbrück along with Salvador Luria and Alfred Hershey, the Phage Group made substantial headway unraveling important aspects of genetics. Max Delbrück (chemist)
Max Emil Julius Delbrück (; 16 June 1850 – 4 May 1919) was a German agricultural chemistry, agricultural chemist. Biography Delbrück was born in Bergen auf Rügen. He studied chemistry in Humboldt University of Berlin, Berlin and in University of Greifswald, Greifswald. He was a member of the Burschenschaft, fraternity Free Corps of Cimbria. In 1872, he was made assistant at the Academy of Trades in Berlin. Career In 1874, he was appointed head of the newly founded experimental facility of the Spirits and Liquor Trade Association of Germany. This facility was transformed and expanded in 1882 into the VLB Berlin, Research and Educational Institute for Brewing (VLB). Delbrück was head of the Institute of Fermentation Technology within the research institute. In 1887, he was appointed instructor at the Agricultural College, and in 1899, was given a full professorship. Delbrück Scattering
Delbrück scattering, the deflection of high-energy photons in the Coulomb field of nuclei as a consequence of vacuum polarization, was observed in 1975. The related process of the scattering of light by light, also a consequence of vacuum polarization, was not observed until 1998. In both cases, it is a process described by quantum electrodynamics.
