Max Aardema
Marcus "Max" Aardema (; born 11 February 1963) is a Dutch politician and former police officer representing the Party for Freedom. Career Before entering politics, Aardema was an officer of the Dutch National Police and worked as a coordinator with the crime investigation unit. He has been a member of the States of Friesland since 10 March 2011 and a member of the Senate, where he is temporarily replacing Martin van Beek, since 31 October 2017. Following the 2023 Dutch general election Early general elections are scheduled to be held in the Netherlands on 22 November 2023 to elect the members of the House of Representatives (Netherlands), House of Representatives. Senate (Netherlands)
The Senate ( or simply ' , literally "First Chamber of the States General", or sometimes ' ) is the upper house of the States General, the legislature of the Netherlands. Its 75 members are elected on lists by the members of the twelve States-Provincial and four electoral colleges for the Senate every four years, within three months of the provincial elections. All provinces and colleges have different electoral weight depending on their population. Members of the Senate tend to be veteran or part-time politicians at the national level, often having other roles. They receive an allowance which is about a quarter of the salary of the members of the lower house. Unlike the politically more significant House of Representatives, it meets only once a week. The House of Representatives (, pronounced ; commonly referred to as the ', literally "Second Chamber of the States General") is the lower house of the bicameral parliament of the Netherlands, the States General, the other one being the Senate. It has 150 seats, which are filled through elections using party-list proportional representation. Generally, the house is located in the Binnenhof in The Hague, however, it has temporarily moved to the former building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Bezuidenhoutseweg 67 in the Hague while the Binnenhof is being renovated. 2021 Dutch General Election
General elections were held in the Netherlands from 15 to 17 March 2021 to elect all 150 members of the House of Representatives. Following the elections and lengthy coalition formation talks, the sitting government remained in power. The election had originally been scheduled to take place on 17 March; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government decided to open some polling stations two days in advance to ensure safe voting for elderly and immunocompromised citizens. General elections were held in the Netherlands on Wednesday 15 March 2017 to elect all 150 members of the House of Representatives. The incumbent government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte was the first to serve a full term since 2002. The previous elections in 2012 had resulted in a ruling coalition of his People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the Labour Party (PvdA). States Of Friesland
The States of Friesland were the sovereign body that governed the province of Friesland under the Dutch Republic. They were formed in 1580 after the former Lordship of Frisia (a part of the Habsburg Netherlands) acceded to the Union of Utrecht and became one of the Seven United Netherlands. The Frisian stadtholder was their "First Servant" (mostly in military matters, as he had few other powers before 1748, when the Government Regulations for Friesland were promulgated by then-stadtholder William IV, Prince of Orange). The board of ''Gedeputeerde Staten'' (Delegated States) was the executive of the province when the States were not in session (which was most of the time). Martin Van Beek
Marinus Jan "Martin" van Beek (; 1 April 1960 – 26 August 2018) was a Dutch politician representing the Party for Freedom in the Senate (Netherlands), Senate. Between 2006 and 2009, van Beek studied New Business Development at the Business School Nederland, earning an MBA. He was a member of the Dutch Senate (Netherlands), Senate between 2 October 2012 and 9 June 2015 and again from 28 March 2017 until 25 October 2017, when he was temporarily replaced by Max Aardema due to illness. He returned on 14 February 2018 and left once again on 14 March 2018 to be replaced by Aardema once more. Van Beek returned to the Senate on 4 July 2018. Van Beek died at the age of 58 in Leersum on 26 August 2018 due to an accident. At the time of his death he was owner of a wholesale business in medical products.
