Mavericks (Peter Holsapple And Chris Stamey Album)
Mavericks is a collaborative album by the two original singer/songwriters of jangle pop band the dB's, Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey. It was originally released in 1991 on Rhino Records and was re-released on January 15, 2008 by Collectors' Choice Music. The reissue featured six previously unreleased tracks. The album is noted for having a more acoustic and slower sound than Holsapple and Stamey's work with the dB's. Critical reception Initial Upon its release, ''Mavericks'' received a very favorable review from Ira Robbins, who wrote in ''Entertainment Weekly'' that the album "resonates with emotional power." Robbins gave the album an A grade. A more mixed review appeared in the ''Chicago Tribune'', where Mark Caro gave the album 2.5 stars out of 4 and wrote that "A few of the songs sit there like pudding on a plate, but others... seep in over time." Peter Livingston Holsapple (born February 19, 1956) is an American musician, who formed, along with Chris Stamey, the dB's, a jangle-pop band from Winston-Salem, North Carolina.Strong, Martin C. The band, with Stamey back in the fold, reformed with new material in 2005–2006. Biography Holsapple was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, moving with his family to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1962. He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School. He played in bands since 1964, professionally since 1970. His band Rittenhouse Square, which included Mitch Easter, Chris Stamey, and Bobby Locke, released an independent album in 1972. ''No Depression'' is a quarterly roots music journal with a concurrent online publication. In print, ''No Depression'' is an ad-free publication focused on long-form music reporting and deep analysis that ties contemporary artists with the long chain of American roots music. Dave Schramm (musician)
Dave Schramm is an American musician best known for his stint as the lead guitarist for Yo La Tengo during the band's early years. Schramm was born and raised on Long Island, New York. After learning to play several instruments from the age of eight, Schramm picked up the guitar in his teenage years. He began his music career with a late incarnation of Human Switchboard, a short-lived group heavily influenced by The Velvet Underground and Joy Division. Gregory Calbi (born April 3, 1949) is an American mastering engineer at Sterling Sound, New Jersey. Biography Greg Calbi was born on April 3, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, and raised in Bayside, Queens, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Bishop Reilly High School in Fresh Meadows. Calbi earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at Fordham University where he studied with Marshall McLuhan and his staff for 3 of those years. He then earned his master's degree in Political Media Studies (Speech Department) at the University of Massachusetts. During these college years, Calbi drove a NYC cab and sold ladies shoes, and was intent on becoming a documentary filmmaker. Christopher Butler (born May 22, 1949) is an American musician, writer, and artist who is best known for leading the 1980s new wave band The Waitresses. His notable songs include " I Know What Boys Like", "No Guilt", "Christmas Wrapping" and the theme song for the TV sitcom ''Square Pegs''. Early life and career Butler, who is of Italian and Hungarian ancestry, grew up in Akron, Moreland Hills, and Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and majored in sociology at Kent State University. Harold Eugene Clark (November 17, 1944 – May 24, 1991) was an American singer-songwriter and founding member of the folk rock band the Byrds.
