Mavelikara Orthodox Diocese
Mavelikkara Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created on 10 August 2002. H.G Vattamparambil Dr Abraham Mar Epiphanios is the Metropolitan of the diocese. The head office is located in TheoBhavan Aramana, Thazhakkara, Mavelikkara. History This diocese was founded on 10 August 10 2002. It was inaugurated in the presence of Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews II, former Catholicos of the East. Kolathukalathil Paulose Pachomios was the first Metropolitan. Forty parishes and twelve chapels of the dioceses of Kollam, Niranam and Chengannoor, and the erstwhile 39 parishes here were annexed to the newly introduced one. The headquarters of the diocese was consecrated by Baselios Mar Thoma Didymos I in 2008. On 1 August 2012, Mar Pachomios died and Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, the then-Malankara Metropolitan, became the metropolitan and appointed Sankarathil Joshua Mar Nicodimos as the assistant metropolitan. The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) also known as the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC) or simply as the Malankara Church, is an autocephalous Oriental Orthodox church headquartered in Devalokam, near Kottayam, India. The church serves India's Saint Thomas Christian (also known as ''Nasrani'') population. Baselios Marthoma Mathews II (30 January 1915 – 26 January 2006) was the primate of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He was the 6th Catholicos of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and 19th Malankara Metropolitan. Early life He was born at Perinad in Kollam district of Kerala, and had his theological education at Old Seminary Kottayam and also at Basil Dayara, Pathanamthitta. Later he joined Bishop’s College, Calcutta for his B. D. Degree, and studied Theology at the General Theological Seminary, New York. Priesthood He was ordained as deacon in 1938 then as priest in 1941. Baselios Geevarghese II took special interest in the activities of Father Mathews. As a monk, Fr. Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan are the titles used by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, which is also called the Indian Orthodox Church, for the same bishop holding two offices of Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan. Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II
Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II (born K. I. Paul at west mangad ); 30 August 1946 – 12 July 2021) was the primate of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He was enthroned as the 8th Catholicos of the Malankara Church and the 21st Malankara Metropolitan on 1 November 2010, succeeding Didymos I. Malankara Metropolitan
Malankara Metropolitan is an ecclesiastical title given to the head of the Malankara Syrian Church, previously by the Government of Travancore and Cochin in South India. This title was awarded by a proclamation from the King of Travancore and the King of Cochin. The Prime jurisdiction regarding the temporal, ecclesiastical and spiritual administration of the Malankara Church is vested in the Malankara Metropolitan. The Malankara Metropolitan is the legal custodian of the Kottayam Old Seminary, interest of vattipanam and Other Common Community properties of Malankara Church.
