Mausoleum of Kazi Nazrul Islam is a mausoleum in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It marks the grave of the 20th century writer, poet and musician Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh’s national poet. He died 29 August 1976. Background Bangladesh became independent on 16 December 1971. Then on 24 May 1972, after getting permission from the Indian government, then Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought Kazi Nazrul Islam and his family from Kolkata to Dhaka. Then the poet started living in Bangladesh with his family. He wrote a song with the lyrics "Mosjideri Pashe Amay Kobor Diyo Bhai, Jeno Gore Thekeo Moazziner Azan Shunte Pai" (). He was admitted to PG Hospital of Dhaka (now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University) on 23 July 1975. After getting citizenship on 18 February 1976, his physical condition started to deteriorate. Abdul Matin Chowdhury
Abdul Matin Chowdhury (1 May 1921 – 24 June 1981) was a Bangladeshi academic and physicist. He served as the 14th Vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka. Education Chowdhury passed entrance examination from Arunchandra High School in Noakhali District in 1937 and intermediate from Dhaka Intermediate College in 1939. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from the University of Dhaka. He obtained Ph.D. in atmospheric physics from University of Chicago in 1949. He completed Ph.D. for the second time in 1961. Career Chowdhury started his career as a meteorologist in the Pakistan Meteorology Department. Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury
Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury (23 November 1922 – 17 January 1978) was a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 13th vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka. He was appointed the Minister of Education of the Government of Bangladesh for two terms. Education and career Chowdhury passed the matriculation examination from Farashganj High School in Noakhali in 1938 and the intermediate examination from Feni College in 1940. And then he earned his bachelor's and master's in political science from the University of Dhaka in 1943 and 1944 respectively. In 1960, he obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of London. Quamrul Hassan
Quamrul Hassan (, 1921–1988) was a Bengali artist. Hassan is referred to in Bangladesh as Potua, a word usually associated with folk artists, due to his down to earth style yet very modern in nature as he always added Cubism other than the folk style to his artworks. In addition to his artistic legacy, two of Hassan's work have come to be part of Bangladesh's political history. The first of this is a monstrous rendition of Yahya Khan, the Pakistani president who ordered genocide in Bangladesh. Zainul Abedin
Zainul Abedin (29 December 1914 – 28 May 1976) was a Bangladeshi painter born in Mymensingh, East Bengal, British India (now Bangladesh). He became well known in 1944 through his series of paintings depicting some of the great famines in Bengal during its British colonial period. After the Partition of Indian subcontinent he moved to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In 1948, he helped to establish the Institute of Arts and Crafts (now Faculty of Fine Arts) at the University of Dhaka. Muzharul Islam
Muzharul Islam (25 December 1923 – 15 July 2012) was a Bangladeshi architect, urban planner, educator and activist. He is considered as the Grand Master of regional modernism in South Asia. Islam is the pioneer of modern architecture in Bangladesh and the father of Bengali modernism. Islam's style and influence dominated the architectural scene in the country during the 1960s and 70s, along with major US architects he brought to work in Dhaka. Churulia
Churulia is a suburb of Asansol under the Jamuria CD block, in the Asansol Sadar subdivision of the Paschim Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal, India. History It is the birthplace of Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and the resting place of his wife Pramila Devi. Many of the manuscripts, medallions and other belongings of the poet are preserved at Nazrul Academy in the village. Nearby, there is a college bearing the poet's name. Nazrul Academy was established in 1958. It is believed that there was a fort at Churulia in olden days. It fell to Sher Khan, the Afghan chieftain in the 16th century.
