Maurits Coppieters (14 May 1920 – 11 November 2005), Flemish politician for the Volksunie, member of the Belgian Chamber (1965–1971), the Belgian Senate (1971–1979) and the European Parliament The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Speaker Of The Flemish Parliament
The Speaker of the Flemish Parliament ( nl, Voorzitter van het Vlaams Parlement) is the presiding member of the Flemish Parliament, which is the legislature of Flanders (Belgium). The speaker is elected at the beginning of each parliamentary year, on the fourth Monday in September. The Speaker chairs the plenary sessions of the Flemish Parliament and acts as its official representative. The speaker determines whether a certain initiative is admissible and thus can be put to parliament at all. The Flemish Ministers take the oath before the Speaker of the Flemish Parliament. Only the head of the Flemish government, the Minister-President of Flanders, takes the oath before the King. Belgian Chamber
The Chamber of Representatives (Dutch: , french: link=no, Chambre des représentants, german: link=no, Abgeordnetenkammer) is one of the two chambers in the bicameral Federal Parliament of Belgium, the other being the Senate. Flemish (''Vlaams'') is a Low Franconian dialect cluster of the Dutch language. It is sometimes referred to as Flemish Dutch (), Belgian Dutch ( ), or Southern Dutch (). Henri Boel
Henri "Rik" Joseph Boel (5 September 1931 – 13 November 2020) was a Belgian politician and a judge. Biography Henri Boel was born in Tienen on 5 September 1931. In 1954 Boel graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven as a Doctor Juris. From 1954 to 1986 Boel was active as a lawyer. In the municipal elections of 1958 Boel was elected a city council member for the BSP in Tienen and served until 1986. He became mayor of the city in 1964 and served until 1976, and again from 1983 to 1986. Boel was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Representatives in 1965, and re-elected in 1968, 1971, 1974, 1977 and 1978. From 3 June 1977 to 20 October 1978, Boel served as the minister of the interior in the government led by Leo Tindemans, and his successor Paul Vanden Boeynants. Boel became Speaker of the Cultural Council in 1979 (the predecessor of the Flemish Parliament) and, after it was reformed into the ''Vlaamse Raad'', remained its speaker until December 1981. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. Volksunie
People's Union ( nl, Volksunie, VU) was a Flemish nationalist political party in Belgium, formed in 1954 as a successor to the Christian Flemish People's Union. The Volksunie defined itself as a big tent and catch-all party that combined support from the left and right with the main goal of focusing on increased Flemish autonomy and establishing more linguistic and political rights for the Flemish community. The party also based its platform on civic nationalism over radicalism in order to foster a more legitimate image. The Flemish or Flemings ( nl, Vlamingen ) are a Germanic ethnic group native to Flanders, Belgium, who speak Dutch. Flemish people make up the majority of Belgians, at about 60%.
