Mauritius competed its eighth consecutive Olympiad at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This Olympiad had a contingent of 11 athletes, 4 men and 7 women, to represent the nation in 7 different sports. Mauritius distinctions of this Olympiad were : the repeat of sending more female than male athletes, the nation's debut at Olympic triathlon and beach volleyball, and breaking its medals streak started at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Beach volleyballer Natacha Rigobert was the eldest team member at 32 and was honored as their inaugural female flag bearer at an opening ceremony. Marie Christianne Legentil (born May 27, 1992, in Port Mathurin) is a Mauritian judoka who competes in the women's 52 kg category. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she won against later double world champion Majlinda Kelmendi and was defeated in the quarter finals. In 2014 and 2015 she was runner up at the African Championships. In 2014, she was winner of the African Open Port Louis 2014 –52 kg. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she again met Majlinda Kelmendi but this time she lost to the eventual gold medalist in the quarter finals. The women's beach volleyball tournament at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, United Kingdom, took place between July 28, 2012 and August 8, 2012 at Horse Guards Parade. Twenty-four pairs of competitors were taking part, including one from Great Britain as the host country, and a maximum of two from each other nation. Sixteen qualified through positioning in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings as of 17 June 2012, five others earned their places at the 2010–12 Continental Beach Volleyball Cup, and the final three from the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification tournament.
