Mauricio Pastrana
Mauricio Antonio Pastrana Tapi (born 20 January 1973) is a Colombian former professional boxer. He is a former four-weight world champion, having won multiple titles in the light flyweight, super flyweight, and bantamweight divisions, as well as an interim title at flyweight. Professional career Pastrana turned professional in October 1991. In his debut at Sincelejo, Colombia, Pastrana defeated fellow debutant Allende Rudino via second-round knockout. On January 18, 1997, Pastrana defeated Michael Carbajal in a twelve-round split decision at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas for the IBF light flyweight title. Pastrana would go on to take the Interim WBA flyweight title, IBA and IBO super flyweight titles and IBA Bantamweight titles. Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. Split Decision
A split decision (SD) is a winning criterion in boxing, most commonly in full-contact combat sports, in which two of the three judges score one particular competitor as the winner, while the third judge scores for the other competitor. A split decision is different from a majority decision. A majority decision occurs when two judges pick the same competitor as the winner, and the third judge scores the contest a draw (tie). Roberto Gaspar Vásquez Ramírez (born Aug 11, 1984) is a Mexican American professional boxer who held the WBA light flyweight title from 2005 to 2006. He also held the WBA flyweight interim title from 2006 to 2007. Professional career Vásquez lost in his professional boxing debut against Angelo Dottin on March 17, 2001. The four-round fight occurred in Dottin's hometown of Colón, Panama. Despite Vásquez's cutting Dottin's right cheek in the first round, all three judges scored the bout 39-38 for Dottin. Since the debut loss, Vásquez has won 22 consecutive fights. William Henry Grigsby (born March 19, 1970) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1988 to 2007 and held the IBF junior flyweight title twice between 1998 and 2006. He also won the WBO junior flyweight title in 2000, but was stripped of the title for failing a drug test. Professional career Grigsby turned pro in 1988 and lost his second professional fight, to flyweight legend Michael Carbajal who was making his professional debut.
