Maurice Lévy
Maurice Lévy (February 28, 1838, Ribeauvillé – September 30, 1910, Paris) was a French engineer and member of the Institut de France. Lévy was born in Ribeauvillé in Alsace. Educated at the École Polytechnique, where he was a student of Adhémar Jean Claude Barré de Saint-Venant,Osakada K., p.24 and the École des Ponts et Chaussées, he became an engineer in 1863. During the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871), he was entrusted by the Government of National Defense with the control of part of the artillery. During the next decade he held several educational positions, becoming professor at the École Centrale in 1875, member of the commission of the geodetic survey of France in 1879, and professor at the Collège de France in 1885. Maurice Lévy (physicist)
Maurice Marc Lévy (7 September 1922 – 13 April 2022) was a French physicist and teacher. He was president of the CNES from 1973 to 1976. Education Maurice Lévy obtained his Baccalauréat at the Lycée Bugeaud in Algiers, and then graduated in mathematics and physics from the University of Algiers. He then obtained a graduate degree in optics and entered the CNRS in 1945. He left Algeria for France and joined the Physical Research Laboratory of the Sorbonne ( LRPS), directed by Jean Cabannes. After a brief stay at the University of Leiden, he defended his thesis in 1949 under the supervision of Jean Cabannes. Louis de Broglie participated in his thesis examination. Career In 1949, he visited the University of Manchester to work under the direction of Léon Rosenfeld. In 1950, he joined the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, directed by J. Sir Maurice Levy, 1st Baronet, JP, DL (9 June 1859 – 26 August 1933) was a British Liberal Party politician. Early life Levy was born in 1859 in Leicester. He was the second son of Joseph Levy of Leicester and elder brother of Arthur Lever, who was also a Liberal MP.The Palgrave Dictionary of Anglo-Jewish History and educated at London University. Career He was Managing Director of Hart and Levy (Limited), wholesale merchants and manufacturers, of Leicester and London. He was Liberal MP for the Loughborough Division of Leicestershire from 1900–18, first contesting the seat as the Liberal candidate at the 1900 General Election when he narrowly held the seat for the Liberals.
