Maurice Capovilla
Maurice Capovila (16 January 1936 – 29 May 2021) was a Brazilian film director and screenwriter. He directed eight films between 1968 and 2003. His 1970 film ''The Prophet of Hunger'' was entered into the 20th Berlin International Film Festival. Valinhos
Valinhos () is a municipality (''município'') in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is the birthplace of Adoniran Barbosa. Valinhos is famous for its purple fig, the theme of its annual Fig Fest. It is part of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas. The population is 131,210 () in an area of . Its elevation is . Its name means 'little valleys' in Portuguese. History The city was founded on 2 December 1732 by Alexandre Simões Vieira. A passage between the villages of São Paulo and Jundiaí had been opened. The main economic foundation of the town in the 19th century was the production of coffee, figs and grapes. Later on, a railway was created to transport the products to the Port of Santos. Since the fig has been a town's symbol, the city counsel organizes the Festa do Figo (a traditional Fig Fest, attended by more than 75,000 people yearly). ''The Red Light Bandit'' ( pt, O Bandido da Luz Vermelha) is a 1968 Brazilian crime film directed by Rogério Sganzerla, inspired by the crimes of the real-life burglar João Acácio Pereira da Costa, known as the "Red Light Bandit" (''Bandido da Luz Vermelha''). The film is a representative work of ''cinema marginal'', the Brazilian underground filmmaking movement of the 1960s. Sganzerla was 21 years old when he directed it. Sganzerla called the film ''a Third World western''. Plot Jorge, a São Paulo house burglar, nicknamed by the press the "Red Light Bandit", baffles the police by using peculiar techniques. Always carrying a red flashlight, he rapes his victims, has long dialogues with them and makes daring escapes. Afterwards, he spends the profits of his crimes. The bandit's exploits are shown in a fragmented manner, voiced over by two narrators in the style of a sensationalistic radio program.
