Maurice Bailloud
Maurice Camille Bailloud (Tours, 13 October 1847 – 1 July 1921) was a French general. Career He was the son of Ennemond Henri Bailloud, a Navy lieutenant and Virginie Marie Marchand. He studied from 1866 at the École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr and graduated on 5 October 1868. He participated in the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871). In 1879, he married with Marie Chambert and had 4 children. He participated in the Second Madagascar expedition as Chief of staff of the French Expeditionary force under command of Jacques Duchesne. In 1900, he was sent to China as commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade to suppress the Boxer Rebellion. Promoted to Division General, he was stationed in Algeria from 1902 to 1906. He became commander of the XX Army Corps (1906), the XVI Army corps (1907) and the XIX Army Corps (1907). He went in retirement in 1912. Henri Gouraud (French Army Officer)
Henri Joseph Eugène Gouraud (; 17 November 1867 – 16 September 1946) was a French general, best known for his leadership of the French Fourth Army at the end of the First World War. Following this, he became the first High Commissioner of the Levant (1919–1922) then Military governor of Paris (1923–1937). Early life Henri Gouraud was born on Rue de Grenelle in the 7th arrondissement of Paris to Doctor Xavier Gouraud and Marie Portal, the first of six children. The Gouraud family originally came from Vendée, but had left during the French Revolution for Angers, then Paris. Gouraud was educated at home and at the Collège Stanislas de Paris. His decision for a military career was, like many Frenchmen of his generation, motivated by the French defeat in the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871). The Macedonian front, also known as the Salonica front (after Thessaloniki), was a military theatre of World War I formed as a result of an attempt by the Allied Powers to aid Serbia, in the autumn of 1915, against the combined attack of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria during World War I, Bulgaria. Corps Expéditionnaire D'Orient
The Corps Expeditionnaire d'Orient (Oriental Expeditionary Force) (CEO) was a French Expeditionary Force raised for service during the Gallipoli Campaign in World War I. The corps initially consisted of a single infantry division, but later grew to two divisions. It took part in fighting around Kum Kale, on the Asiatic side of the Dardanelles, at the start of the campaign before being moved to Cape Helles where it fought alongside British formations for the remainder of the campaign. In October 1915, the corps was reduced to one division again and was finally evacuated from the Gallipoli Peninsula in January 1916 when it ceased to exist.
