Maurice Anderson (American Football)
Maurice Anderson (born January 19, 1975) is a former American football lineman who played two seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the Colorado Crush and Los Angeles Avengers. He played college football at the University of Virginia. He was also a member of the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He also played for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe. He was a member of the New England Patriots team that won Super Bowl XXXVI. Early years Anderson played defensive end at Nottoway High School in Nottoway County, Virginia and was named all-state and all-region in his junior and senior years. College career Anderson was a four-year letterman for the Virginia Cavaliers of the University of Virginia. He finished his career with 106 tackles and five sacks. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Arena Football League
The Arena Football League (AFL) was a professional arena football league in the United States. 2006 Arena Football League Season
The 2006 Arena Football League season was the 20th season of the Arena Football League. The league champions were the Chicago Rush, who defeated the Orlando Predators in ArenaBowl XX. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans VooDoo franchise suspended operations before the start of the season. However, the league added two teams, the Kansas City Brigade and the Utah Blaze, expanding to 18 teams. The AFL also expanded its playoff format to 12 teams with six teams per conference. 2005 Arena Football League Season
The 2005 Arena Football League season was the 19th season of the Arena Football League. The league champions were the Colorado Crush, who defeated the Georgia Force in ArenaBowl XIX. The AFL changed its playoff format to allow the top four teams per conference to make the playoffs. Previously, the top eight teams in the league make the playoffs, regardless of their conference. Also, there was no inter-conference play in the playoffs until the Arena Bowl starting in 2005. The division champions also received an automatic playoff berth. This was probably brought on by the fact that the year before the Eastern Division champion New York Dragons missed the playoffs. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played.
