Henry Maudsley
Henry Maudsley FRCP (5 February 183523 January 1918) was a pioneering English psychiatrist, commemorated in the Maudsley Hospital in London and in the annual Maudsley Lecture of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Life and career Maudsley was born on an isolated farm near Giggleswick in the North Riding of Yorkshire and educated at Giggleswick School. Maudsley lost his mother at an early age. His aunt cared for him, teaching him poetry which he would recite to the servants, and secured for him a top tutor and an expensive apprenticeship to University College London medical school. He earned ten gold medals and graduated with an M.D. degree in 1857, though is said to have avoided subjects and clinical work he found onerous and to have antagonised his teachers. The Maudsley Hospital is a British psychiatric hospital in south London. The Maudsley is the largest mental health training institution in the UK. It is part of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and works in partnership with the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London. The hospital was one of the originating institutions in producing the ''Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines''. Robert Maudsley
Robert John Maudsley (born 26 June 1953) is an English serial killer. Maudsley killed four people, with one of the killings taking place in a psychiatric hospital and two in prison after receiving a life sentence for a murder. Initial reports falsely stated he ate part of the brain of one of the men he killed in prison, which earned him the nickname Hannibal the Cannibal among the British press and "The Brain Eater" amongst other prisoners. However, the Press Complaints Commission records that national newspapers were subsequently advised that the allegations were untrue, according to the autopsy report. Maudsley is the longest-serving British prisoner in solitary confinement. Tony Maudsley
Tony Maudsley (born 30 January 1968) is an English actor. He is best known for his portrayal of hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke in the hit ITV sitcom ''Benidorm'', a role he played from 2011 to 2018. His other notable credits include Martin in the BBC One sitcom '' Eyes Down'' (2003–2004), Graham in the ITV2 sitcom ''The Job Lot'' (2013–2014), and George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'' (2020–present). Maudsley made his panto debut in 2016 as Dame Trott in Jack and the Beanstalk, at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham. He returned to pantomime the year after, playing a completely different part – the Genie of the Lamp, in Aladdin, at the Swansea Grand Theatre. Ron Maudsley
Ronald Harling Maudsley (8 April 1918 – 29 September 1981) was an English professor of law who for a few seasons played first-class cricket. As a cricketer, he was a middle-order right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Oxford University and Warwickshire between 1946 and 1951. He was captain of Warwickshire in 1948. Maudsley was born in Lostock Gralam, Cheshire, and educated at Malvern College and Birmingham University, then served in the Royal Army Service Corps during World War II. After the war he gained a B.C.L. degree at Brasenose College, Oxford, in 1947, was immediately elected a Fellow, and taught there for nearly 20 years. He was Professor of Law at King's College, London, 1966–77 and at New York Law School 1977–81.
