Yevgeny Semyonovich Matveyev (russian: Евгений Семёнович Матвеев, uk, Євген Семенович Матвеев; 8 March 1922 – 1 June 2003) was a Soviet and Russian actor and film director who was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1974. He is best known as Nagulnov in '' Virgin Soil Upturned'', based on Mikhail Sholokhov's novel; and Nekhludov in ''Resurrection'' (russian: Воскресение), based on Leo Tolstoy's novel. Artamon Matveyev
Artamon Sergeyevich Matveyev (Артамон Сергеевич Матвеев in Russian) (1625–1682) was a Russian statesman, diplomat and reformer. Biography Because his father - Sergey Matveyev - was a notable diplomat, Artamon Matveyev was brought up at the royal court since the age of thirteen, where he would become close friends with Alexius I. Matveyev started his career as a government official, who worked in Ukraine and took part in some of Russia's wars with Poland. He was a member of the Russian delegation at the conclusion of the Treaty of Pereyaslav in 1654 and Russian diplomatic mission to Poland in 1656–1657. As the head of the Streltsy Department, Matveyev participated in suppression of the Copper Riot in 1662. Seven years later, he was put in charge of the '' Malorossiysky Prikaz'', i.e. Ministry of the Ukrainian Affairs, and in 1671 - head of the ''Posolsky Prikaz'' (foreign ministry) and other ministries. Andrey Matveyev
Count Andrey Artamonovich Matveev (russian: Андрей Артамонович Матвеев) (1666–1728) was a Russian statesman of the Petrine epoch best remembered as one of the first Russian ambassadors and Peter the Great's agent in London and The Hague. Andrey Matveyev was the son of the more famous Artamon Matveyev by a Scottish woman, Eudoxia Hamilton. At the age of eight he was granted a rank of ''chamber stolnik'' (комнатный стольник) but was exiled together with his father during Feodor III's early reign. The Matveyevs returned to Moscow on 11 May 1682, and four days later Artamon Matveyev was killed by the rebellious '' Streltsy'' during the Moscow Uprising of 1682, while Andrey fled the capital again. Fyodor Matveyev
Fyodor Mikhaylovich Matveyev (russian: Фёдор Михайлович Матвеев; 1758–1826) was a Russian classicist landscape painter, most recognizable for his Italian landscapes. He was one of the first Russian landscape painters. Biography Matveyev was a son of a soldier of the Izmaylovsky Regiment. He was admitted to the Imperial Academy of Arts, where he graduated from in 1778 with a Grand Gold medal. One of his professors was Semyon Shchedrin. Matveyev specialized from the very beginning as a landscape painter and became the first landscape artist graduated with a gold medal. He was subsequently awarded a fellowship to travel to Europe, as was common at the time for talented graduates of the Academy. In 1779, Matveyev travelled to Italy and eventually settled there. Aleksandr Konstantinovich Matveyev (russian: Александр Константинович Матвеев, July 8, 1926 – October 9, 2010) was a Russian linguist known for his works in toponymics (branch of linguistics studying toponyms), onomastics (studies of proper names), and etymology (origins and semantical development of words). Biography Aleksandr Matveyev was born in Sverdlovsk but because of World War II he entered and graduated from the Khabarovsk University.
