Matvei Michkov
Matvei Andreyevich Michkov (russian: Матвей Андреевич Мичков; born 9 December 2004) is a Russian professional ice hockey centre currently playing for HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), on loan from fellow KHL club, SKA Saint Petersburg. He made his KHL debut with SKA in 2021 and played for them and their affiliates until 2022. Michkov's NHL rights are held by the Philadelphia Flyers, who drafted him seventh overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Amateur career As early as 2014, Michkov began to get noticed for his hockey talent, setting scoring records for his age group. He scored 109 points in 26 games in the Russian U-16 league, and then had 56 points in 56 games as a 16-year-old in the U-20 division, besting the previous record for points, held by Nikita Kucherov. Hlinka Gretzky Cup
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an annual international under-18 ice hockey tournament administered by Hockey Canada, the Czech Ice Hockey Association, and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation. Held since 1991, it has been contested under various titles and in various countries, including Japan, Mexico, and Canada. From 1997 through 2017, hosting duties for the event alternated between, and were later split between, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. During this period, the event was known as the Nations Cup, the U-18 Junior World Cup, and Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. From 2018 through 2023, the tournament will alternate between Edmonton/Red Deer, Alberta and Břeclav, Czech Republic/ Piešťany, Slovakia. 2021 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2021 IIHF World U18 Championship was the 22nd such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Teams would have participated at several levels of competition. The competition also would have served as qualifications for the 2022 competition. All tournaments other than the top division tournament were cancelled by the IIHF on November 18, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. IIHF World U18 Championship
The IIHF U18 World Championship is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation for national under-18 ice hockey teams from around the world. The tournament is usually played in April and is organized according to a system similar to the Ice Hockey World Championships and the IIHF World Junior Championship. 2022–23 KHL Season
The 2022–23 KHL season was the 15th season of the Kontinental Hockey League. There were 22 teams that competed in the record-breaking 68 regular season games, beginning on 1 September 2022 and ending on 26 February 2023. Season changes For the 2022–23 season, the competition was reduced to 22 teams after Latvian club, Dinamo Riga, and Finnish club, Jokerit, withdrew from the competition during the previous 2021–22 playoffs due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The regular season was expanded to feature 748 games scheduled for 164 gamedays, with each club to play a record-breaking 68 regular season engagements.
