Matti Oravisto
Matti Kustavi Oravisto (23 October 1921 – 15 November 2001) was a Finnish actor who appeared in theatre, film and television. Oravisto started to work as an actor in the Finnish National Theatre immediately after graduating from theatre school in 1947. Around the same time, he also began to receive small parts in films. His breakthrough role came with the award-winning Valentin Vaala film '' Ihmiset suviyössä'' (1948). In the late 1950s, Oravisto returned to the National Theatre, but continued to act in films, although less frequently than in the past. Since the 1960s, Oravisto starred in numerous television productions. Oravisto made his final film role in a Taru Mäkelä film ''Pikkusisar'' (1999). He died in November 2001. Finnish National Theatre
The Finnish National Theatre ( fi, Suomen Kansallisteatteri), established in 1872, is a theatre located in central Helsinki on the northern side of the Helsinki Central Railway Station Square. The Finnish National Theatre is the oldest Finnish speaking professional theatre in Finland. It was known as the Finnish Theatre until 1902, when it was renamed the Finnish National Theatre. For the first thirty years of its existence, the theatre functioned primarily as a touring company. The theatre did not acquire a permanent home until 1902, when a purpose-built structure was erected in the heart of Helsinki, adjacent to the city's main railway station. The building hosting the Finnish National Theatre today was completed in 1902 and designed by architect Onni Tarjanne in the National Romantic style, inspired by romantic nationalism. Valentin Vaala (born Valentin Yakovich Ivanoff, Russian: Валентин Якович Иванов; 13 October 1909 in Helsinki – 21 November 1976 in Helsinki) was a Finnish film director, screenwriter and film editor. Ihmiset Suviyössä (film)
''Ihmiset suviyössä'' (''People in the Summer Night'') is a Finnish film from 1948. Directed by Valentin Vaala, it is based on Frans Eemil Sillanpää's 1934 novel of the same title. Plot The film concentrates on the destinies of a small group of people during one summer night. All events in the film are told from two different perspectives. During the night people are falling in love, fighting drunk, dying, and being born. Nature is just as important a part of the movie as the actors are. The novelist Sillanpää himself had told Vaala to keep in mind that there should be only one main character, and that is the summer night. Reception ''Ihmiset suviyössä'' received mostly positive reviews from Finnish critics. Taru Mäkelä
Taru Mäkelä (born 1 April 1959) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. She started her career in the 1980s working for the Finnish Broadcasting Company. Life and career Besides directing and screenwriting, Mäkelä has also worked as a producer, editor and actor. Mäkelä studied at the Department of Cinematography at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture and graduated with a master's degree in art in 1989. She is also a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Helsinki. Mäkelä began her career as a director in the 1980s at YLE, where she wrote and directed the Smiley Lips entertainment series.
