Matthías Orri Sigurðarson
Matthías Orri Sigurðarson (born 29 September 1994) is an Icelandic basketball player for Úrvalsdeild karla club KR and a former member of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. Playing career After starting his career with KR in 2010, Matthías Orri had is breakout season with ÍR in 2013–2014 when he averaged 16.8 points and 6.7 assists. In 2014–2015, he upped his scoring average to 19.2 points while also averaging 5.9 assists and 5.6 rebounds. After spending the 2015–2016 season with Columbus State University, Matthías resigned with ÍR on May 13, 2016. In April 2017, Matthías signed a 2-year contract extension with ÍR. After helping ÍR reach the Úrvalsdeild finals in 2019, where it lost to KR, Matthías was named to the Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team. ÍR Men's Basketball
The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur men's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and was one of the pioneers of basketball in Iceland and one of the founding members of the men's Úrvalsdeild. From 1954 to 1977, the team won fifteen national championships. In 1964, it became the first Icelandic team to compete in a continental competition when it defeated the Collegians from Belfast, 71-17, in the first round of the 1964–65 FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). History ÍR's men's basketball department was founded in 1949 and its first chairman was Finnbjörn Þorvaldsson. Jakob Sigurðarson
Jakob Örn Sigurðarson (born 4 April 1982) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player. He was named the Icelandic men's basketball player of the year in 2011. Jakob won the Icelandic championship in 2000 and 2009, and the Swedish championship in 2011. College career He played his senior year of high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and played basketball at Birmingham-Southern College, Alabama. Playing career Jakob played in Sweden for 10 years, first with Sundsvall Dragons from 2009-2015 and then with Borås Basket until 2019. In May 2019, Jakob returned Iceland and signed with KR along with his brother Matthías Orri Sigurðarson. On 5 January 2020, KR announced that he would miss significant time due to a slipped disk in his back.
