Matthijs Van Den Bos
Matthijs Eduard Willem van den Bos (born 19 April 1969 in Haarlem) is a scholar of Iranian and Shi'i Studies. He teaches in the Department of Politics at Birkbeck College of the University of London. Professor van den Bos has been a Visitor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, a fellow of the Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies at the University of Amsterdam, and a fellow at the International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World (ISIM) in Leiden. Before joining the University of London, van den Bos taught at the Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam. Haarlem (; predecessor of ''Harlem'' in English) is a city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of North Holland. Haarlem is situated at the northern edge of the Randstad, one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe; it is also part of the Amsterdam metropolitan area, being located about 15 km to the west of the core city of Amsterdam.
