Matthew Wright (triathlete)
Matthew Wright (born 13 May 1992) is a Barbadian triathlete. He qualified to represent Barbados at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Biography Wright was born in 1992 in Barbados, and grew up there. When young, he competed in multiple sports, including swimming, surfing, cricket and football. While in primary school, he tried out triathlon for the first time at a youth tournament organized by the Triathlon Association of Barbados. He then competed at triathlon events monthly and began focusing on the sport fully from age 16. Wright made his international debut at the 2009 Oklahoma PATCO in the junior division, placing 43rd. After continuing to compete in junior international competitions through 2011, Wright began attending Loughborough University in England. After he graduated from there, he joined a triathlon club in Canada. Wright and Jason Wilson represented Barbados at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in triathlon, with Wright placing 20th. Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It was the fifth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games and the first time a major multi-sport had an equal number of events for male and female athletes. 4,426 athletes including 300 para-athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event. The Gambia, which withdrew its membership from the Commonwealth of Nations and Commonwealth Games Federation in 2013, was readmitted on 31 March 2018 and participated in the event. With 275 sets of medals, the games featured 18 Commonwealth sports, including beach volleyball, para triathlon and women's rugby sevens. The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is a public radio and television broadcaster, located in The Pine, St. Michael in Barbados. It was founded in 1963 as Radio Barbados. The CBC falls under the ministry and jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Office. The television service broadcasts on channel 8 and is the only legally licensed, over-the-air television channel broadcasting in the country of Barbados. The corporation also owns and operates three radio stations: CBC Radio on 94.7 MHz FM and 900 kHz AM, The One on 98.1 MHz FM and Q-100.7 on 100.7 MHz FM. 2023 Central American And Caribbean Games
The 24th Central American and Caribbean Games are scheduled to take place in 2023. They were planned to take place in Panama City, Panama, until the government announced on 24 July 2020 that it had decided to withdraw as the hosts as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Panama. Centro Caribe Sports had search for alternatives. In May 2021 San Salvador, El Salvador was chosen to replace Panama City as main host city, as due to infrastructure and schedule issues 7 sports were relocated to Santo Domingo, in Dominican Republic.
